Tick, tick, tick goes the second hand on the clock.
Seconds pass. Minutes pass. Hours pass. Days pass. Weeks pass. Months pass. Years pass.
God doesn’t bat an eye.
We fret. We rush. We try our best to stay on a strict schedule. We fear. We worry more.
And yet, God doesn’t flinch.
“I want to be married by twenty-six.”
“I would like to get that big promotion by next year.”
“The cancer can’t take him yet, I’m not ready.”
“Things just aren’t working out the way I thought they would.”
“Why hasn’t God returned? Doesn’t He see all of the evil in this world?”
Even still, our lives move forward; just as He sees fit.
GOD IS NOT SURPRISED.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 -”There is a time for everything and a season for every activity under the heavens.”
For those of you who didn’t have a chance to read my previous article, I spoke on the importance of putting your faith into Jesus Christ. I truly believe faith is the foundation of any spiritual walk. Without trusting our Savior, our relationship crumbles.
Keeping this in mind, I would like to approach the topic of God’s timing. As with anything else on this earth, our understanding is clouded without discovering, acknowledging, and living out His truth. We must put our whole hearts and faith in Him – faith that He will develop a map to lead us to His kingdom. The catch: HE is our mode of transportation. He drives the car, He flies the plane, He navigates the ship. He decides where we go and how quickly we get there. Without accepting this truth, our direction is unclear. North, South, East, and West cannot be differentiated.
Before we proceed, it is important that you accept: Time is a NONISSUE for God. He leads us to where we need to be, not when we desire it, but when He finds that we are fostering a mind frame and heart capable of handling that particular season. You heard me right, that’s when He sees fit, not us! Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us of this.
Throughout my twenty-one years of life (yes, what a long time I know) nonetheless, I have noticed that God will bring you through three (very general) seasons. As such, I have collected scripture that I turn to and hope that you may find comfort in His word when these seasons arrive.
-If He asks you to move… Let go. Move on. Move Forward. Starting something new.
Job 17:9 The righteous keep moving forward, and those with clean hands become stronger and stronger.
Isaiah 66:9 I will not cause pain without something new to be born.
(Side note, this depiction is SUCH a great representation of this season!)
-If He asks you to wait… Pause. He doesn’t give you what you thought you needed; something doesn’t pan out like you thought it should. A.K.A. – something better is coming along.
1 Samuel 12:16 Now then stand still and see this great thing the Lord is about to do right before your eyes.
Lamentations 3:25-26 The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him. It is good that one should hope and wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.
-If He asks you to be STILL… Listen. You’re unsure of the direction he’s leading you. Be still and hear His voice. Search his guidance and he will grant you knowledge.
Philippians 4:6-7 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of god, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Jesus Christ.
Psalm 32:8 I will instruct you and show you the way to go; with my eye on you, I will give counsel.
In any season you find yourself, pray for wisdom, pray for minds of discernment, and gather the peace that Jesus has already given us through His blood on the cross. Remember that our savior is that of perfection, therefore the plan that He has laid out for us is one of perfection. Choose this perfection over the worry that we so often resort to. Desire Him and you will find yourself desiring His impeccable timing for your life.
