At the University of Tennessee, the Ayres building is a special landmark on campus. But does anyone ever think how awful it is to get to that building? The thing is you have the take the dreaded "hill steps," the steps that really test your stamina, especially when you're walking from one end of campus to the next in 15 minutes.
People say there is an elevator, but we're not really sure if anyone has ever found that elevator. Therefore, that leaves you with one option: to climb the hill steps.
1. Wow, that is a lot of steps.
You think by the time you have your 3rd class up on the hill the thought about climbing them would get easier, but it doesn't.
2. OK, maybe it won't be so bad this time.
That's what you say to yourself till it's cold, raining, or sweat is actually dripping down your face.
3. You know people say there is an elevator, maybe I should try to find it.
Most likely it would take me 10 times longer to find the hidden elevator then to just climb the steps.
4. Or maybe I should take the Hill Bus that's what it's there for.
But wait, where does the hill bus even go? How does it even get up to the hill?
5. OK, I am out of shape I definitely need to go to the gym.
Although, maybe climbing all these steps will count as my exercise for the day.
6. What if I pretend to check my phone or tie my shoe, then I can take a breather.
The old trick of oh my shoe is untied or oh wait I think I'm getting a phone call, just to walk to the side and take a minute to catch your breath.
7. OK, people taking two steps at a time, that really isn't necessary.
There is really no need to see who can go the fastest up the hill steps because we all know I'm going to take my time going up these steps.
8. Yeah, maybe I should take the bus next time.
But really where does it go?!
9. Okay everyone around me I know my breathing is loud, but I promise I'm not going to pass out on you.
I just need to figure out a way to control my breathing before I get into class.
10. Now that I finally made it up these steps, I just have to make it up the steps to get to Ayres.
Whose idea was it to give this university so many steps?!
11. At least walking down is easier.
Alright, until Wednesday, hill steps...
