My Highly Opinionated List Of The Best Halloween Candies

I like candy corn, is that such a crime?!

Normally, I do not really like to indulge in sweets, unless I'm really craving something. Halloween becomes a field day for me every year, and I know in advance what candies I will kindly throw away if I come across them. The list of acceptable candies narrows even further since I have a peanut and treenut allergy. Don't expect to read this list and find that I think the best candy ever is a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, because you'll be highly disappointed. Without further delay, here are my top 5 favorite candies, complete with explanation so that I can't become villainized for my opinion:

5. Kit Kat Bars

Okay, Kit Kat Bars have a really nice crunch to smooth chocolate ratio. When you bite into it, you don't feel like your teeth are going to fall out, like other more sugar based candies, but there's a nice texture that combines with the smooth chocolate in your mouth that is extremely satisfying. Speaking of chocolate, I am an avid believer that certain brand of chocolate taste better than others. This treat is manufactured by Nestlé, and is produced under Hershey's name in the US. I think that I have a thing for Nesté products, because that leads me to my next favorite candy...

4. 100 Grand Bar

Judge me. Okay, I get it, like no one likes these candy bars, but like I said, I'm making a case for every candy I mention. Like I mentioned before, I enjoy the flavor and taste of the chocolate that covers the caramel and crispy rice. Clearly texture is a deciding factor if a candy makes it onto the list or not, and 100 Grand bars definitely have this element. I think what I appreciate most is how the crispy rice does not get soggy or chewy, but maintains its slight crunch, and adds a great element to the treat. I also appreciate how the caramel is soft, and stringy.

3. Mounds Candy Bar

Again, rather unconventional, but I love coconut because it is fine to eat on its own, it has a great flavor, and it is a great snack by itself. With this logic, the way Hershey's combines dark chocolate with the already decadent coconut creates a satisfying treat. The coconut doesn't fall out of the dark chocolate shell as you finish it, and the chocolate does not melt in your hand, like other chocolates do. The coconut remains moist in the chocolate shell, and the aroma of coconut fills the area after you open the package. It's just delightful.

2. Candy Corn

You can hate me if you want, but there's logic behind this. Some people may find candy corn repulsive because it's too sweet, but that's why it's a good treat. Think about this for a second, you could probably sit in your bed watching Netflix on halloween an devour a Twix Bar or even a Reese's Cup package in maybe 5 minutes. Not even. There are 250 calories in one package of Twix, and 210 calories in a package of Reese's. According to Brach's website, the main manufacturer for candy corn lovers, 19 pieces of these nuggets only have 150 calories. So, you satisfy your sugar craving for almost 100 calories less in each case. Not to mention if you're lucky enough to encounter the fall mix with those lovable mellowcreme pumpkins. Sounds like a deal to

1. Twix (I guess)

So picking one candy for my favorite was harder than I thought it would be, so as so right now, the best candy for halloween is a Twix Bar. When you eat these, you have to try to savor every last second of it. I usually open the package, split a bar in half, let the chocolate and caramel dissolve, and then I save the buttery biscuit for last. It makes the experience most enjoyable, when you basically wait all year for one day's excuse to eat all the candy you want. The chocolate on this bar, manufactured by the Mars company, has a great flavor, and the caramel is soft and chewy. The biscuit crumbles nicely when you bite into it, and if you let it and the other half of the chocolate dissolve like the first half of the bar, you are left with a satisfying flavor. Overall, if I had to complain about one thing, it may be that the chocolate does melt quicker than other chocolate, but I think I can let it slide, considering all the other great things about this candy.

So there you have it, my highly opinionated list of favorite candies. If you're saving your sugar appetite for one day of the year like I am, I highly suggest you give these candies a chance.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
