I graduated from Northwest in May of 2016, I am now a freshman at Dalton State. I have noticed so many changes in my everyday life in the past couple of weeks.
In high school, I was on a set schedule. Things were handed to me. So many complain about high school being so life altering difficult. Well, its not. Don't get me wrong, some parts of high school were difficult. Everyone is so self centered and most high schoolers don't even know how easy they have it made. I must admit, I do miss it at times. I miss being in the stands and performing on the field on Friday nights. I miss the friendships I made and how close I was with those people. I do not miss waking up early and having to be locked up in a building from 8:30am until 3:30.
I feel so free in college. I have about an hour in between classes and it is great! I've made so many new friends and even reconnected with some friends from years ago. I love being in charge of my own schedule. The professors treat us like adults and do not "baby" us. In high school, I feel like a lot was filtered from us. While in college, our professors don't hesitate to make anything PG.
With freedom comes responsibility. In high school, if I was feeling a bit under the weather, I could just stay home and not worry about a thing. After I came back from my little day off, all I had to do was bring a note and my teachers would fill me in on what I missed. Now that I'm in college, I fear getting sick. I currently am fighting off a virus and I'm praying I get better by tomorrow. In my classes, we go over so much content in a day, I'm scared to imagine how much I'd miss in a day.
I wouldn't trade my high school experience for the world. My advice to those still in high school is to enjoy every second of it.
