High School Musical's Soundtrack Translated For West Chester

Admit it… you still love High School Musical. And you love West Chester (on most days). Imagine if Troy Bolton was a Golden Ram instead of a Wildcat? Here is how each song in “High School Musical” would fit perfectly into the WCU campus.

1. Start of Something New

College is the definition of starting something new. New friends, new classes, new everything. High school is finally over and the next chapter in your life is finally here! Just like the butterflies Troy and Gabriella had for each other when they met singing some quality karaoke, your first couple of weeks is a rush of nervous energy. And who knows, go to an open mic night in Sykes and you might meet your very own Troy or Gabriella. Let's just hope he has better hair than Zac Efron at the time.

2. Get’cha Head in the Game

You have a huge exam tomorrow… You know what that means. It’s time to focus, head to the library to work, and get your head in the game. But maybe just a little (45minute) wait in the Starbucks line first to kill some time. You finally find a spot near an electrical outlet to plug in your laptop after hunting for another hour. You try to get online to download what you need… But RamNet is down. Looks like your head is not going to be in the game. Oh well, better go home and ignore that you’re going to fail.

3. What I’ve Been Looking For

It’s time for some dinner… I guess Lawrence will have to do. You get there and somehow find a place to sit and the hunt officially begins. Roman Kitchen just ran out of pizza, Lindsay’s Garden is just not doing it for you today, Side Café has surprisingly long lines… But then just when you’re about to give up you see it. It’s chicken nugget and tater tots day! It’s what you’ve been looking for! Now you just have to wait in an endless line for them.

4. What I’ve Been Looking For (Reprise)

This reprise is slower and only a tad bit better than the original… So it’s basically like eating at Sykes when comparing it to Lawrence. The song is also a third of the size of the original “What I’ve Been Looking For” just like Sykes is microscopic in size when measuring it up to Lawrence. Watch out because I will be elbowing through the enormous crowd to get the last Chic-Fil-A sandwich. Because that sandwich is what I've been looking for since I woke up this morning.

5. Stick To The Status Quo

One of the best parts about college is that it is so different from high school. There is no pressure to fit in with a certain a group. The term “being popular” goes out the window and you can be whoever you want. If you want to bake a crème brulee, go for it. Wanna pop, lock, jam, AND break? Please do. Do you secretly play cello? Tell everyone you know!

6. When There Was Me and You

Gabriella somberly walks through the empty halls of East High singing about her dying relationship with Troy. When it comes to college, you never have to walk around our halls alone! Don’t be a Gabriella, grab a friend and walk around campus somberly. Or, better yet, just talk to them about your problems. Or you can sing it to them like Gabriella does… but that might not go as well.

7. Bop to the Top

We are used to climbing the ladder of success here at West Chester. We have some of the best sports teams in the PASSHE school system, our insanely talented marching band treat us with a phenomenal show at each football game, and our fine arts department shines with extremely talented young artists. Mucho gusto, Golden Rams. ¡Aye que fabulosa!

8. Breaking Free

You are finally away from your parents for the first time! You have broke free from their roof and you’re finally on your own. You know what that means? You can order food at 1 AM without judgment. You can get Chic-Fil-A everyday for weeks without a vegetable in sight if that’s what you want. You can make pizza rolls at 4 AM without the microwave beeping waking them up. You’re soaring, flying… into adulthood. And to be honest, it’s kind of terrifying. But their faith, it gives you strength (to be a great college student).

9. We’re All In This Together

When you go to West Chester, you have 16,000 other students who are going through the same daily struggles as you. Waiting a decade for a rice bowl in Sykes, procrastinating to last minute to do a 10 page paper, going out on a Thursday when you have a 8 AM class the next morning… remember that no matter what happens you can find someone on this campus to listen and be there for you. What team? Golden Rams! (Doesn’t fit as well as Wildcats, but we tried.)

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
