Thank you for sticking with me even after our high school days

An Open Letter To My High School Best Friends

It isn't hard to understand why we became friends or how it happened, but sometimes I wonder how I got so lucky to have been blessed with such amazing people to enter my life. People say that your high school best friends don't last and that the friendship you once had will soon fade once you move on to bigger and better things outside of high school. Although I do believe this to be true, I am so happy to say that we did it! We beat the odds, we are the exception to the tragic rule of high school friend groups. This means that our friendship is something so special and so sacred I feel it's only necessary to thank you all for sticking by my side through thick and thin.

Thank you for all the late night conversations. Whether it was to tell me "everything is going to get better" or to talk about some inside joke, I always loved the constant conversations we kept going late into the night. To all of the times we share funny stories within our group chat and all of the times we wish each other luck as we embark on a new adventure, nothing is ever left unsaid.

Thank you for giving me a shoulder to cry on. For always being there when I need you most and knowing exactly what to say to make the situation better. Even when you say nothing at all but just to know that I needed someone to listen to me or feel the presence of your comfort. For not only supporting me but for keeping my secrets. I love that I can trust each of you with anything that I confide in you.

Thank you for all the fun girls nights. Every time I hear the phrase "girls night" I become giddy inside. Some of my favorite memories come from the nights we spend together doing crazy and random things like our dance sessions and our late night trips to our favorite diner. Thank you for making a sleepover much more than what a usual sleepover entails and making me love our girls nights more than anything else.

Thank you for always letting me be the DJ. Even when I know you guys can't stand my choice of music (especially hard core rap) you still give me the aux cord and let me jam out in peace. I secretly love when you guys call me the DJ or when I get to share with you the new songs I have found.

Thank you for letting me into your families. For all the times I felt like the other sister or joking about moving into your home. Feeling comfortable enough to walk right into your house and have a conversation with your mom or dad without feeling like a guest is the best. I love having 5 new families to go to when I get bored of my own and I love that I feel like I have 5 sisters since I biologically have none.

Thank you for obsessing over boys with me. When we choose a new boy that we are currently crushing on, we make it a point to bring him up in the group chat or get excited when we talk to him at a party. I like that we can all pretend we are dating someone and know that we don't mean it seriously. Sometimes I think it's more about the fun of being obsessive over a boy more than it is about actually liking him.

Thank you for pigging out with me. You know that I am always the hungry one of the group, so thank you for giving into my pleas and going out to eat with me when I'm dying to have a slice special or when I'm craving ice cream. We are always telling each other we shouldn't spend any more money on food or that we don't need the calories but we proceed to go out to eat anyway. Thank you for making recipes I find online with me and always being down for a midnight snack. They say girls eat more when they are with other girls and I can assure you that is true within our friend group.

Thank you for loving Blink 182 as much as I do and for making the best air band there has ever been. It never gets old to hear "All The Small Things" and whip out our air guitars, drums, and microphone and just jam out as hard as we can. No one ever understands the weird desire we have to literally jam out, but it makes it more fun that way.

Most of all, thank you for being you. We all have different personalities but I think that's what makes our friend group work. Having the sensitive one, the funny one, the crazy one, and the ones in between is what makes our unique dynamic stable. I love that we can come home from college and feel like we haven't had months in between the last time we saw each other. Although words can never do it justice, I hope that you all will be able to feel the love and gratitude I have for each one of you. Thank you for the years we have spent together and the many more to come!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
