As I was chilling on my couch this well-deserved Thanksgiving break, I was mindlessly flipping through the channels on my television when I saw the 2004 teen movie, "Sleepover" was on. So, naturally ,I freaked out and proceeded to watch it. And it's just as good as I remembered it to be. Here are reasons why everyone should re-watch or view for the very first time this childhood classic.
1. The plot.
Nice girl friend group led by the super cool Julie Corky (Alexa Vega) are pitted up against the mean girl group led by Stacie Blake (Sara Paxton) in a scavenger hunt the night of the high school's homecoming dance to see which girl group will get the coveted lunch spot once they enter high school. Is it kinda stupid? Yes. But who doesn't want to see the mean girls fall?
2. It reminds you of a time when you were scared of high school.
Watching this movie in 2004 when I was nine, I had no idea what high school was about. I figured there was more to it than homecoming and lunch spots (although, meh, actually kind of debatable now that I think about it) but it takes you back to a much more simpler time in life.
3. It's pretty funny.
Steve Carell is in it, so enough said.
4. The stars.
So many stars were in this movie. Alexa Vega ("Spy Kids"), Jane Lynch ("Glee"), Steve Carell ("The Office"), Hunter Parrish ("Weeds"), and Evan Peters ("American Horror Story") are all in this movie.
5. The boys.
Sean Faris and Douglas Booth are enough motivation for me to watch this movie. I would gladly attempt to skateboard in front of Sean and risk all integrity if that meant he would want to talk to me. And even now at age 20, I feel bad for Douglas' character when a girl goes up to him at the dance only to want to talk to Sean. I wouldn't do that to you, Douglas.
Overall, "Sleepover" is a pretty good movie if you want to watch some fluff for a few hours. And given that it's almost finals time...
