We can all agree that any place has its apparent downfalls. We can find countless things about every place we go that are irritating or distracting. Usually, these things take up our time or phone battery with no obvious immediate benefits. Fisher is no exception. Yet, sometimes, the things we hate the most are a blessing in disguise.
1. The sound of the score board
Although at the time the noise of the various athletic events while occupying Dorsey Hall was downright obnoxious, I often miss the random blasting of the weirdest playlists and the screaming of both the athletes and fans. There's something so pleasant about other people's excitement even for those of us who aren't die-hard sports fans.
2. The long lines at Fishbowl and Cardinal
No one likes to wait for their food, but at Fisher it's a common occurrence after 9 p.m. One time I waited for 57 minutes to get my nachos with just cheese. Well not one of my favorite moments, at least the food was prepaid for! There's nothing I hate more now than accidentally draining my bank account because coffee isn't "free." Not to mention all the memories of thrown french fries and those times I missed my chair while trying to sit and landed on the floor!
3. Ungodly amounts of club emails
These were perhaps the single most annoying thing many new students had to get used to during their first semester. While I may not care about the Clash of Clans Club (not to pick on them, they were just the first to come to mind!), I always knew where to find late night snacks! While bumming off other clubs' food, it was easy to bump into a new friend (and kill the late night munchies!).
4. The ringing of the clock tower... every 30 freaking minutes
Any Fisher Student could tell you that they've had a moment (or 12) when they wished the damn clock tower would break. If you don't have a class until 11 a.m., you're sure to be up at 9 a.m. cursing the clock tower. On the surface, the clock tower was annoying; however, it was rather useful when keeping track of time subconsciously. Like when you are taking a social media break from trying to do the Chemistry homework and the tower rings and you realize it's the third time you've heard it while staring blankly at your phone screen... Well Katlin, that's an hour and a half of your life that you will never get back. For me, the clock tower really was not a nuisance, but a real life saver!
In the moment, certain things feel like a burden. But when the big picture is actually revealed, these things were actually some of the best parts of Fisher! I cannot wait for September to head back to the Fisher Campus and my Fisher Fam! 77 days to go!
