HGTV Shows You Should Watch

I'm going to be very honest here. I'm super into HGTV, and anyone I know will agree. No, I am not in my thirties and not a stay-at-home mom who gardens in her free time. I am a twenty-year-old college student who loves to dream about what my house will maybe look like one day. I'm not a huge fan of TV usually (Netflix always wins), but for some reason, I can't help but stop to watch whatever is on HGTV. There's something fascinating about the transformation of houses and all the cool new things that people are doing to their houses.

Here are HGTV's best in my personal opinion (laugh now, but you'll be hooked, I promise).

5. "Beachfront Bargain Hunt"

People who are looking for a dream house getaway try to battle it out with realtors in order to get a good price for a beach house. Not only are the houses and destinations beautiful, but the people are crazy. They seem to never be quite happy with what is picked out for them. You'll probably end up screaming at your TV and just telling them to settle with the one that is closest to what they want.

4. "Property Brothers: Buying and Selling"

The Scott brothers (I still can't tell which one is which) have a show where they try to buy a house as cheap as possible, and put in as little money as possible to make big changes so they can sell it for as much as possible. They're really good at what they do, and it's pretty cool to see how much money they can make off of a really ugly house (you may want to consider a new career in this area).

3. "House Hunters"

This is, in my opinion, the most aggravating of the HGTV shows, but still it finds a way into my top five. If you thought that "Beachfront Bargain Hunt" was full of people who complained a lot, brace yourself. Some people are very nice and can find exactly what they want, but usually that's not the case. People on the show have three houses picked out for them. They are usually close to their price range and have almost exactly what they want. The hard part is, there isn't a house that always checks off everything on their "must-have" lists. They have to choose between the three options, which leaves you trying to make your best guess about which house they will pick. Usually they don't go with the one you pick, and then you're still talking to the TV telling them that they're stupid.

2. "Fixer Upper"

Chip and Joanna Gaines are the HGTV power couple for sure. They have a beautiful old farm house in Texas that was completely renovated to look like something straight out of Pottery Barn or Better Homes and Gardens. They have adorable children who are often featured in the show. They go around and help people choose an old and decrepit house to turn into their dream home. They help them customize it and stay within their budgets in a location of the buyer's choice. This show always inspires me to start new projects around my room (they never look as good, but that's beside the point).

1. "Flip or Flop"

Coming in at number one is my favorite show, "Flip or Flop." These former real-estate agents decided that they could do more. They now buy houses that they usually never get to tour first, and completely renovate them to make profits of $50,000 or more. With his construction ideas and her design ideas, they never fail. Something always appears to go wrong, or their budget gets too high, and yet they still come out on top. The drama helps make this show much more than boring house renovations.

And now that you know all about the best of HGTV, you can turn on the channel and watch these shows with confidence (don't let your friends tease you too much).

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
