Reasons Why I Appreciate My Mom
Marissa Sweatland

Mom,

After having a child development class back in high school, I have a deep appreciation for the pain you went through to have me, so I will start off by thanking you for that. Thanks.

But you and I both know that I have a lot to thank you for.

Thank you for loving the hell out of me. You’ve taught me just how deep a mother’s love runs. I know I’m not always the easiest person to love, but through all my bad you still see my good. Thank you for teaching me that I’m worth loving, because some nights I have my doubts.

Thank you for being exactly the mother I need. You are the mother I deserve. You always went above and beyond what I deserved. I didn’t deserve most of the things you did for me, but thank you for doing them anyway.

Thank you for teaching me strength. You were always my safety net when I thought my world was crashing down around me. Thank you for always being there to pick up the pieces.

Thank you for seeing me for who I am: your daughter who “marches to the sound of her own drum." Additionally, thank you for never trying to change who I am.

You’ve sacrificed so much for me, mom. I find more and more of you in who I am every day. You’ve impacted my life in big ways, and I am a better person because of you. You’re the best friend I’ve ever had, and I’ve loved you since I first laid eyes on you.

I hope one day I make you proud to call me your daughter.

Thank you for encouraging me every chance you got. Your words of encouragement are forever burned into my heart. Your encouragement fuels my passion. You fuel my passion.

You are everything I need.

I’ve loved you since I first laid eyes on you.

Love,

Your [favorite] daughter

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
