Dear Mom,
I am not an emotional person. Not in the slightest. I am not very good at showing affection. Therefore, I don’t express to you enough how much you really mean to me. I’m writing this letter because you deserve to know what an incredible woman you are. If I thanked you for every single thing you have ever done for me, this letter would be as long as a dictionary, so I am going to make this short and sweet.
First off, I want to thank you for loving me unconditionally at every single point in my life: good and bad. No matter how much trouble I am in, or how mad you are at me, you never stop loving and caring for me. Thank you for letting me learn from my mistakes, and turn them into lessons. As imperfect as I am, you still make me feel important. For as long as I can remember, you have always told me how beautiful I was, how much you loved me, and how proud you are of me. You are the reason I became the confident person I am today.
You make your children your first priority, and that is something I really appreciate. The older I get, the more I notice how much you really do for me. If I ask for your help, you drop everything for me in a heartbeat. Even the simplest things like bringing me a glass of water or doing my laundry, you never hesitate. I’m not taking advantage of your kindness, I want you to know that. It is just nice to come home from college and take a break from being an adult sometimes. You are the most selfless woman I have ever met. I know it’s not all about materialistic items, but you go above and beyond to make sure I receive the best gifts, even if it means not getting something for yourself just so I can have that pair of boots I have wanted forever. And I can’t thank you enough for helping me pay for college.
Most of all, I am thankful for our relationship. You are the perfect mix of a mother and a best friend. Your support means everything to me. When I was having trouble in school and became discouraged, you were there to pick me up. When I got my heart broken, you laid in bed and cried with me. When I get into a fight with a friend, you give your honest opinion, whether it agrees with mine or not. I am very thankful for your honesty. Honesty is a trait that I proudly got from you. I am glad that I possess some of your traits, inside and out. And when everyone tells me "you look just like your mother," I take that as a compliment.
Our family isn’t perfect, but it is complete. I am thankful for the great life you gave to me. You raised a great family, and I will forever be thankful for that. I hope one day I can be half as great of a mother as you. I know I am grown up now, but I want you to know I’ll always need you.
