'Hey Baby, Put A Smile On That Face!'

A letter to the guys out there who think it's ok to harass women in public because they think its a compliment.

'Hey Baby, Put A Smile On That Face!'
Disney / Beauty And The Beast

This goes out to all the guys at a bar, or on the street who think its ok to touch a woman that you don't know.

Dear Mr. Macho,

I would just like to inform you that it is 100 percent not OK to touch me or anyone I'm out with if we don't know you. I know you might think it's a compliment because you think that we look good to try to impress you. I just want to tell you that your assumptions are irrational. A group of girls go out to have a good time and sometimes that includes hooking up with someone and sometimes that means dancing and partying with friends. It's not up for you to decide which one of those two things any girl does on a given night. It's not for you to decide when you can touch us or grab at us. For some reason you think that we dress well to be noticed by men and by noticing us you are doing us a favor. You're not. If we want to go home with you, hell if we want to talk to you, we'll let you know. Women who know what they want aren't hard to read and they're not being coy if they refuse to accept a compliment. Frankly, they're just not interested.

Women do not like getting cat called because, honestly, it's terrifying. Sir, imagine you are walking down the street and someone yells out "hey you, yah you baby, why aren't you smiling? I bet you'd look beautiful with a smile on your face. Come over here I'll make you smile," is your first instinct to go over and see if this person has a funny joke? Is your first instinct to be polite and smile at this person? No! Your first instinct is to cross the street, run, or call someone because frankly you're worried that he's going to go all Joker on your ass and cut a smile into your face. That terrified feeling is what most women feel when they're cat called. Just don't do it!

Oh and if a woman says "Sorry I'm not interested," don't tell her that you "don't believe" her. If someone flat out lets you know that she does not want to interact with you and you keep pressuring her, well then there's a deeper underlying issue that you should seek cognitive therapeutic help for.

Here's the thing, in your drunken stupor you might make mistakes. Everyone makes mistakes. Repeatedly harassing a girl who is completely not interested because you think that your God's gift to the female sex is not a mistake. Women, just like men, have types. Maybe her type isn't the creepy bar guy that for some reason doesn't seem to understand the same English that he's using to harass her. You might be shit out of luck my friend because I'm pretty sure 99.9% of women would rather not go home with a guy that just tried to convince them that they don't know whats best for themselves.

So, sir, please stop perpetuating rape culture. This country has enough of a problem with it already and you're just making it worse. If a girl says she's not into it, she's not into it. It's probably the most simple logic out there. Somewhere deep down you have both a conscious and a brain and the next time you go out to a bar I suggest you use them.

Sincerely,

An unconvinced woman

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
