Who do you listen to?
Do you listen to that person who says you will never achieve your dreams? Do you listen to that group of people, relatives, and so called friends that tell you to follow the norm and remain on the traditional path? They tell you to pursue something or to do something that ultimately does not bring you any long-term joy. At best, you may get short bursts of joy... on payday, but that feeling acts as a firecracker, coming and going in a blink of an eye. Do you listen to the people that bring you down, and that fill your life with negativity?
Or;
Do you listen to those who tell you you're the greatest? Those that explain how your success is within arms length, all you need to do is reach. Do you listen to those who always have your back and are always supportive? Do you listen to those that push you to be better? Those are the best people to be around; those people that not only bring the best version of you forth into the conscious world but also keep you there, striving to attain all dreams and goals.
So who is it?
I'll tell you the number one person that, at the end of it all, has the loudest and most powerful effect.
You!
It is yourself that decides whether you are good enough, better, or worse. You determine your fate. That is one of the most eye-opening facts. You are in control. Now, of course, who you listen to is vital because if you are exposed to too much negativity throughout life, your mind will be programmed to think negatively. Likewise goes for the positive. This is because we are products of our environments.
However; the most important thing is that you believe you will accomplish whatever you want.
If you believe, then it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. They become irrelevant, like smoke in the howling wind of your success. If you believe in yourself then whatever it is that you crave is already on its way to you, and you to it.
Sounds simple, right? Or at least that what my dad always said. "It's so simple. Just change your mindset."
Well, we all know it's not.
That's okay because I have found that with practice and being around the right people, you can re-program your mind. You can go from thinking the unspeakable 'never' word to not only thinking you can achieve something but knowing you will achieve it.
The only advice I can give is to practice with conscious effort every day. Say positive things to yourself in the mirror and out loud to others. Work towards feeling good every single day. Listen and spend time with the right people and, in your heart-of-hearts, you know who they are. Lastly, work on personal development; watch videos, read books and listen to positive audios.
My fellow millennials, this is why we are different. This is why we will do great things. This belief, and belief in one another, is what will change this world for the better.
We live in a world where you can earn a living traveling the globe and writing a blog about it. This is a place where you can think of one phone app and become kings. One YouTube video and you can become famous. We live in a world where you can do, be, and achieve anything you want. I believe in you, there are people closer than you think that believe in you, but most importantly you must believe in yourself. Don't let that inner child grow up. The kid inside you that knows beyond all doubt that they can achieve anything. They look up at the stars bewildered but not belittled. They see the world as an amazing place full of wonder and mystery. They see what they want, even at a young age, and they do not question whether or not they will achieve it, they just simply assume it will happen. Whether astronaut or professional athlete, a teacher or firefighter, they know it will come to be.
Millennials, do not let yourself fall into the river of the masses carrying you down a negative, unending, lifeless path. Don't allow your environment, or the people inhabiting it, to bring you down.
If you are stuck in a lull; keep grinding. If you are stuck back at home; use this as a time to follow your true passions. If you have no money; stay positive. If you can't get a job; just keep looking and know the best one for you will come into existence at the right moment in your life. If you are ever down; just know that going up will be that much more epic. And, most importantly,
Don't stop believing in yourself.
