Unlike most of those that fall into my generation, I never once considered supporting the other two “fan favorites,” if you will—those two being Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders. As a college kid, it’s weird to not fall into the social norm—but not at the same time due to the fact that being in your twenties doesn’t mean that you are dumb or oblivious to what goes on in the real and political words.
I was raised in a Republican home—one where guns are presents every single day and we are taught how to properly use one—that they’re not toys and are not to be feared at a younger age than most do in this world. I was always told that hard work pays off and you won’t be rewarded for sitting on your ass. You should give to those in need, but not be taken advantage of. You know, basic fundamentals that the left typically disagrees with. On top of all of that, I attend one of the most conservative universities in the state.
I know what you’re thinking—it’s in my genes to go with the only Republican pick that is available, and you’re right, it is. However, I came to the conclusion that Trump is my pick on my own, also—because in your twenties you discover who you are and what you believe and sometimes it’s different from your parents and sometimes it’s not.
Looking at the two options that are presented to us, Trump is my pick due to the fact that he’s the choice that more closely resembles my own personal views. He’s a touch brash in what he does and says at times, but his points are what matters the most. I won’t get into reasons why I am against Hillary being in the Oval, but I will say that they stem from one end to the clear other side and I can defend each one; that’s what matters when you’re for or against someone- can you back it up or are you just talking to talk?
Personally, I would love to see Bush (junior or senior) back in the office. I love Ronald Reagan and I think that his lovely wife was one of the more fine first ladies this country has seen. I think that our police forces deserve more support than they get, as do our farmers and ranchers. I don’t believe in hand outs and I don’t agree with my tax dollars going to those that are simply too lazy to apply themselves.
So, in November, I’ll be choosing Donald Trump because he’s the lesser of the two evils. Overall, I’m not a die-hard supporter and he hasn’t been relevant in my life prior to now, BUT I can’t have Dubya back in office and Reagan has since passed—so my safest choice is now Trump and I am perfectly confident and secure in such a choice because you can’t have an opinion on the presidency and the country if you don’t cast a vote.
