In life, we are faced with hundreds of decisions, even just in a day alone. Some decisions are simple: what you'll eat for breakfast or what pair of shoes you'll wear that day. Other decisions can be a bit bigger: how long will you study for that test that's a large chunk of your final grade? But there are some situations that you'll come across that will force you to make a crucial decision. Your choice can significantly impact you and could potentially change the path you will take in life.
When faced with major life-changing decisions, it is important to take in consideration many different factors that can play into things, but sometimes, change can happen in a second. Sometimes, you need to take one big step.
Sometimes, you need to take a giant leap of faith.
Hearing the phrase "leap of faith" gives me flashbacks to Indiana Jones. He faces this wide gorge, a canyon that falls down so far he cannot see the end. He has no idea if he'll fall to his death if he steps out. But his father is dying, and needs his help. So Indy takes his leap of faith, and sticks his foot out to find that he indeed will be able to travel on.
A leap of faith is taken when you do something where you have no idea what the outcome will be, and you have no way to find out unless you do it. So, I believe that sometimes in life, we have to take these leaps of faith in order to grow.
The other day, I took a huge leap of faith. I'm involved with the musical in my school, and our female lead, unfortunately, had to step back from the show. My director called me into her office and asked me if I would like to take on the role. And I said yes, there and then. We have a month until we open and now it's time for me to memorize new lines and new music.
I don't know how all of this will turn out, but I love theater and performing. So I took my leap.
I am not here to tell you to not think things through. There are some decisions and choices that you may have to make in life that require a lot of thought and weighing of options. I am not telling you to throw out all reason. Sometimes, you need it. Sometimes you need to keep a clear, rational head.
I am here to tell you to embrace spontaneity. I am here to say that sometimes you should go out on limb. Sometimes you should try something new and put yourself out there because you never know what could come of it.
I don't know how this show will turn out. But what I do know is that I took my leap of faith, and I am proud of myself for doing it. So here's to the leaps of faith, and seeing how far I can fly.
