They're basically like your sibling.

Unfortunately, not all friendships last forever. People come and go and some surprisingly turn on you. But there are always those few people who are trustworthy, respectful, and always have your back no matter what situation you're in. Sometimes it's hard to tell who you're true, best friends are, so here's a guide for you to figure out if he or she is your lifelong friend.

1. You enjoy each other's company

If you've ever had your friend over just to hang out at your place, eat, chill, and talk about life then you definitely are very close with that person. You don't necessarily have to go out somewhere or spend money to have a good time. But this would probably be awkward and boring if you were with an acquaintance or a mutual friend. It just wouldn't be the same.

2. You have similarities

You both have quite a few things in common and truly embrace them. You both make the most out of your similarities. For example, if you have the same taste in music, you go to concerts together, or if you love the same shows and movies, you'll watch them together.

3. You can tell them anything

The third sign is that you can tell this person anything, and you aren't afraid to. You don't have to worry about someone else's judgment. You might tell them a problem you are handling or an embarrassing story. Either or, you know they'll be there to listen to you and give you advice.

4. You're more confident in yourself

You feel confident to be yourself when you're with them. You can say stupid things, make silly jokes, send them unattractive Snapchats, and much more. This person should be bringing out the quirky side of yourself that you normally would not show to an acquaintance.

5. You have many pictures together

The fifth indicator is that you have tons of pictures together. They go from silly to a fancy night out. Some of these pictures probably bring back a crazy memory you had together.

6. Your families are also friends

The sixth sign is that your families might also be great friends. Your moms and dads might get coffee or dinner together every once in a while. Or maybe your families have Thanksgiving dinner every year. Your friend's family likes you, and your family likes your friend. Sometimes it even feels like your friend is like your sibling and their parents are also your parents. It just means you both are super close!

7. Inside jokes

The final sign is that you both have a plethora of inside jokes. They might come up a lot even in a casual conversation you two are having. Then you both start cracking up, and anyone else who is with you might be confused. It's because you two are best friends and no one else can understand how you both work!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
