Hey everyone! Happy Halloween! Or should I say, HELLAween! I hope you're all knee deep in skeletons and have carved at least 8 pumpkins in the past 2 weeks. I've been hard at work on this series, and I'm here to give you the best Halloween movie rec list I possibly can! I've sifted through my entire library of horror, sci-fi, and slasher films, as well as gotten a few recs from my friends! I wanted to give everyone more than just the usual Hocus Pocus or Halloweentown. So, If you're not going out on halloween because it's a Monday (lame), or you're "too old" to trick or treat (You're never too old -- I'm 20 and I still go), or maybe you're just not down for clownpocalypse (I totally understand), just grab your candy corn and cozy up on the couch to watch a few of these!

THE ULTIMATE HALLOWEEN MOVIE REC. LIST

Categorized for Halloweenies of all levels, and rated by Jack-o-lantern scale.

First off, old but gold: Movies from way before I was born, but are held to be classics!

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920)

By far my favorite silent film, and definitely a runner up for favorite film of all time! Its got murder and mystery- not to mention creepy 20s makeup. 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

Psycho (1960)

Even if you've never seen it, you KNOW about the shower scene. 🎃🎃🎃

Nosferatu (1922)

We've all seen the episode of SpongeBob. But have we seen where it originated? Definitely give this a look! 🎃🎃

Poltergeist (1982)

This movie is iconic not just in the film sense, but in the fact that it is believed the movie set was cursed; seeing as 4 members of the cast died after filming. Even spookier.🎃🎃🎃🎃

Silence of the Lambs (1991)

Cannibalism = Halloween. 🎃🎃🎃

Beetlejuice (1988)

Say it 3 times and he'll help you... Or ruin everything. Either way, it's entertaining. 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

The Shining (1980)

Best scary movie based on a book in my opinion. REDRUM. 🎃🎃🎃

Next, we have the Slightly Spoopy ones -- movies that aren't super scary, but definitely give you the Halloween vibes.

Corpse Bride (2005)

I wanted to get married after I die because of this movie. 🎃🎃🎃🎃

Twitches (2005)

Twins. Witches. Yes. 🎃🎃🎃

Frankenweenie (2012)

Dead dog movie that isn't depressing. 10/10 would recommend 🎃🎃🎃

Paranorman (2012)

I wish I could talk to ghosts. 🎃🎃🎃

Don’t Look Under The Bed (1999)

THE MOST underrated DCOM in history. So may people don't know about this movie and I'm bitter about it. Watch it. 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

Coraline (2009)

The original Upside Down. Way before Stranger Things. 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)

This just so happens to be my favorite movie of all time, so I'm a little biased. 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

Edward Scissorhands (1990)

Why would they give him the waterbed? He has scissors for hands. Scissors. 🎃🎃🎃🎃

Nightmare Before Christmas (1994)

THIS IS HALLOWEEN. Also Christmas? Either way, you can't skip this movie. 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

Little Shop of Horrors (1986)

A plant that eats people. Cool doo-wop tunes. A masterpiece. 🎃🎃🎃

Death Becomes Her (1992)

This movie is funny and campy. It's about immortality -- and Meryl Streep is in it, which automatically makes it good. 🎃🎃🎃

And, now... sleep with the lights on: These aren't for the faint of heart.

Insidious (2010)

My favorite scary movie. 3rd favorite movie of all time. Plus, Tiptoe through the Tulips by Tiny Tim is pretty creepy on its own. 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

Exorcist (1973)

Iconic use of special effects. The horror still holds up too! 🎃🎃🎃🎃

The Ring (2002)

This one is only scary because I had a scary run in similar to the girl in the well and now I'm traumatized. 🎃🎃🎃🎃

The Grudge (2004)

Cultural scares are always good to have! This one is from Japan and is based on a cool urban legend. 🎃🎃🎃

The Descent (2006)

This is why I don't go outside. Nature tries to kill everyone, I swear. 🎃🎃

Blair Witch Project (1999)

From a film nerd perspective, this movie gets bonus points for the fact that it innovated the 'found footage horror' style that Paranormal Activity made popular. Plus, it's just damn scary! 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones (2014)

Probably the best out of the entire franchise. Witches and curses? Heck yeah. 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

The Amityville Horror (2005)

Based on the true story of a murder turned haunting in New York. This movie also has shirtless Ryan Reynolds, which is always a concept I will support. 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

The Haunting in Connecticut (2009)

Also based on a true story -- a family moves into a morgue. (Why would you ever do that?!?) A kid throws up his intestines. A lot of scary s--- goes down. 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

And, now, for the Bloody. Slashers and killers and crazies -- OH MY!

American Psycho (2000)

Also a good book-to-movie recommendation. Christian Bale is amazing. 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

Hostel (2006)

SAW before SAW. It'll leave you guessing at the end as well! 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

My Bloody Valentine (1985)

Quintessential slasher film. Fun fact: This version had almost 10 minutes cut by MPAA because of 'excessive gore and violence'. 🎃🎃

My Bloody Valentine (2009)

Yes, it's a remake. But it's good because it gives more of a backstory than the 80s version. They're actually quite different if you look at both! 🎃🎃🎃🎃

House of Wax (2005)

It's terrible, but it has Paris Hilton. 🎃

Prom Night (2008)

Honestly, I just love this one because it's terrible too. 🎃

The entire SAW franchise (2003-13)

After seeing the first one, every time someone asked me if I wanted to play a game, I would run. 🎃🎃🎃

Trick 'R' Treat (2007)

This is a good reminder of why keeping up with Halloween tradition is important. Because if you don't follow it, you die. 🎃🎃

Here are some hidden gems: movies that aren't that well known, or aren't "Halloween" enough.

ABCs of Death (2013)

26 letters, each one assigned to a different filmmaker from around the world. The prompt? Death. Honestly, as long as you skip the letter F, its a good watch. 🎃🎃🎃🎃

Cloverfield (2008)

*insert aliens meme* 🎃🎃🎃

Shutter Island (2010)

Perfect psychological thriller. The plot twist is lit. 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

Super 8 (2011)

This makes the cut because I like aliens and Joel Courtney. 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

Gothika (2003)

Another good psych thriller. Not the best, but it holds up. 🎃🎃

Chronicle (2012)

Superpowers that tear friends apart and make one go on a murderous rampage. Not Halloween, but Halloween. 🎃🎃🎃

It Follows (2014)

Moral of the story is to never have sex or you'll die, just like Coach Carr said in Mean Girls. 🎃🎃🎃🎃🎃

What are your favorites? Leave them in the comments below, and don't forget to share! I'll be back with more HELLAween fun next week, my goblins!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
