Presidential election years are incredibly exciting as a number of great men and women hit the big stage from all political parties and all corners of the nation in a race to the White House. While we tend to focus all our energy on those on the big stage, we forget about another important factor of the race- the potential Presidential spouses behind the stage. This year we have many great spouses behind the stage, from a former US President to a former Miami Dolphins cheerleader.
There are many great spouses to pay attention to this year, but one seems to stand out as a true asset and prospect to their spouse’s campaign, and that spouse would be Heidi Cruz, the wife of republican Presidential hopeful, Senator Ted Cruz from Texas. A star who in all honesty, could shine brighter than most on her very own, has teamed up with her husband in this race as a dynamic duo. When it comes to comparing Mrs. Cruz to likes of historical first ladies such as the darling Lady Bird Johnson and the forever-iconic Jackie Kennedy, she holds her own. If Texas senator Ted Cruz ever gets the opportunity to be president, he may well have one of the most influential and loved first ladies in American history, and here’s why:
She’s a strong, independent businesswoman
As a massive movement of feminism blazes across the world, women are beginning to step away from being a simple housewife, into their own successful careers away from their husbands, and Heidi is no exception to this new idea. Although she has taken time away from her career to help Senator Cruz pursue his Presidential dreams, she is a highly successful woman on her own. She is a managing director at the investment banking firm Goldman Sachs and received her master’s degree from Harvard business school. However, before her career with Goldman Sachs, Heidi worked for former President George W. Bush as director for the Western Hemisphere at the National Security Council from 2003-2004. While we admit, she looks marvelous standing next to Senator Cruz, being dubbed as an intellectual equal to her husband, it is clear Heidi Cruz is more than capable of taking care of herself and holding her own.
Business is second, and family is first
Mrs. Cruz continues to wow Americans across the nation with her impressive resume and incredible intelligence, but what continues to be stand out as most impressive is her ability to maintain such a strong career while keeping up with two small children. Raising young children is difficult enough, but try raising them while constantly being in the eyes of the media and helping support your husband in his campaign to become the President of the United States of America. Anyone who has worked a campaign, big or small, understands that things never go as planned and the entire campaign will get as close to utter chaos as you can possibly get. But this has yet to get to Mrs. Cruz, going on her own tours across the nation, raising two small girls, and keeping her relationship alive and well with what we know is probably an incredibly stressed and high-strung Senator. Plus, she does this all while looking absolutely fabulous, we’re not sure how she does it, but we must admit, she is doing it all abnormally well.
Her fashion sense is impeccable
While this might be the weakest argument, it still holds relevance. Being in the eyes of the media on a consistent basis means a person must look their very best at all times. Looking back on former first ladies, such as America’s darling, Jackie Kennedy, America’s first lady is highly judged by the way she chooses to present herself. Mrs. Cruz time and time again has shown her wonderful sense of fashion, topped off with a beautifully infectious smile. And on the day Senator Cruz announced his decision to run for President, Mrs. Cruz stood with her husband, sporting a beautiful pink tweed skirt suit, resembling Jackie Kennedy’s iconic pink skirt suit. It looks like Mrs. Cruz already understands very well what it looks like to be a prominent First Lady in the area of fashion.
She can relate to those who struggle with mental illness
Many Cruz supporters might not actually be aware that Mrs. Cruz actually had her own battle with mental illness she was forced to fight a few years back. In the early 2000’s while working in DC and away from her husband, Mrs. Cruz began to fight her own battle with depression. Police reports say that Mrs. Cruz was found by a police officer between a freeway and an on ramp with her head in her hands when the officer approached her and was able to take her home. Soon after this, she made her way back to Texas to be back with her husband and took a job with Goldman Sachs. Cruz says she was able to win her battle with depression with lots of prayer, counseling, and plenty of love and support from her family. Knowing that the Cruz family holds mental illness so close to their hearts, it can be expected that this would continue to be an important issue to their family, even while in the White House.
She’s is the perfect opposite to her husband
Senator Cruz has gained quite a reputation throughout his career as being a loud, and outspoken individual who is not afraid to give a person a good dose of reality when needed. But Mrs. Cruz has proven to be quite the perfect opposite to her husband. While Cruz supporters love Senator Cruz’s strong personality, they find Mrs. Cruz’s warm and gentle personality refreshing. While it is wonderful to see incredibly outspoken women, Mrs. Cruz doesn’t need to be overly boisterous in order to get her point across. Senator and Mrs. Cruz are the perfect opposites of one another. Senator Cruz is like the cut you get when you fall and scrape your knee, and Mrs. Cruz is the ointment you put on that cut in order to relieve the pain. Apart, these two things don’t seem to have much impact, but together, they make a difference. As American’s we’re not exempt from experiencing national tragedies that can at times upset us, maybe even cut us pretty deep. And that is why people like Mrs. Cruz matter. Cuts don’t hurt as bad when you have something to heal them and relieve the pain. That’s why the gentle nature of people like Heidi Cruz matters so deeply.
Heidi and Ted are the dynamic duo America has been missing
There have been many dynamic duos to set foot into the White House, like the Kennedy’s and the Johnson’s. But the White House hasn’t really witnessed a major dynamic duo since the Clinton era, and the Cruz family might be major contenders to bring back such an era. Not only is Mrs. Cruz her husband’s biggest fan and biggest supporter of his ambitions, but she has her very own ambitions. If Senator Cruz was not able to make an appearance at an event, you can bet Mrs. Cruz would be more than capable of taking his place and impressing the crowd just as much as her husband could. It's not often that you see a couple so equally intelligent and impressive as the Ted and Heidi Cruz. With such a dynamic duo in the White House, a person could expect to see major accomplishments come from not only the Senator, but Mrs. Cruz as well.
America has been waiting many years to see another first lady step into the White House with the likes of such First Ladies as Jackie Kennedy and Lady Bird Johnson, and it looks like Mrs. Heidi Cruz could be a major contender to be just that lady. With such a deep love for her family and country while being just as impressive and intelligent as her Senator husband, it seems that America is slowly but surely starting to fall in love with the impressive blonde businesswoman from California. As the Presidential race continues on for the rest of the year and Senator Cruz continues his campaign to the White House, only time will tell if the White House will be introducing it's new JFK and Jackie.
