Now that it is the end of September, it is time to put away those high waisted daisy dukes and bikini tops and break out the riding boots and flannel shirts for those chilly early October nights.
Hayride is my personal favorite date party for multiple reasons, and a lot of those reasons have to do with the fact that it is a brand new season and all the excitement is still fresh and people actually want to go outside. Apple cider, and whatever you choose to mix with it, is about all you need to have the time of your life with all of your sisters and their randomly set up dates, boyfriends, casual hook ups and friends.
The process of getting prepared for hayride starts long before the actual day of the event. My big and I started discussing who our potential dates could be back in July, and
now it is already almost time for the actual event. Finding a date to hayride is one of the most
crucial decisions you will make when it comes to a sorority event. This is because hayride is not a normal date
function since it is an event where you have to kind of make your own
fun. For example, we have to spend a
relatively long cab ride getting to the cider mill and make your own fun out of it. Also, when you arrive at the cider mill there
is music and a bonfire. That’s it. No
bar, no dance floor, so you need a partner who will help you have the best night of your life.
Outfit selection is also pretty crucial when it comes to
the day of the event, since it is very questionable weather in the Midwest at
this time of year. For example, last
year on hayride I almost melted, but this year I have a very strong feeling I will probably freeze. The ideal
outfit for hayride would be jeans, riding boots, and a flannel,
or something along those lines.
Last year I was very concerned as to what exactly was
going to happen at hayride, because being a new girl of just a few days I had
no idea what to expect. I asked about 10 different people, and I finally found out that there was an actual hayride
at hayride. Who would have thought?!
Once you get to the day of hayride, all of the anxiety you
had prior to the event will wash away and you will be overwhelmed with the
amount of happiness everyone has the moment you start your
festivities. Everyone knows, the pregame
is just as fun as the actual game, so the real fun starts before you even get
into the cab to go to the cider mill.
I have waited all year to have
another hayride, and I will most definitely be having the time of my life the entire time. Have fun and be safe!
