At one point or another in a person's life, they will have to put in a hard day of work, usually more than one day. Some people will dedicate their entire lives to their careers while others will only have a career for a small amount of time before dedicating their lives to something else. Either way, both people started out working at the bottom of the food chain. Some people will start working as a teenager, working part time or having a summer job in high school, others will wait until they are in college. Either way, it is an important rite of passage for every person to start at the bottom rather than letting their degree get the job for them. It teaches a person humility and responsibility for their actions and finances.
Many people would like to believe that they don't need to work during the summer or even part time because they don't need the money or they are above the job. The money itself isn't the important part of a summer job, it is really just a perk. The main purpose of a part-time job is to introduce a person into the work force. In a part time job, it doesn't matter what stage a person is in their education, SAT scores do not matter, or even the age a person is. The purpose of working a part time job is to gain experience and to understand the consequences of one's actions.
It could even be said that a better leader is made from someone who understands what it is like to do a hard job with little pay. But everyone has to start somewhere. Getting a Summer Job isn't easy for anyone and can actually be quite stressful. After filling out so many applications, a person could start to forget what they are applying for. This is a huge part of leaving childhood behind and embracing adulthood.
There are so many different steps a person needs to go through to even get a summer job, then keeping a summer job doesn't get any easier. The pay might not be enough or the hours could be too long, but that is what a summer job is, long hours. It is supposed to be a little fun, but mostly it is a time for a person to prove to their employer they are more than worthy of their position and might even deserve something more.
A summer job is a perfect way to avoid lying around the house, while also showing parents and authoritative figures that one can handle himself or herself or is learning how to. Parents can't be around forever to take care of things and they shouldn't have to be, either. A parent will always be there to help in tough situations, but they shouldn't be the only person bringing in the money and necessities. It is better to learn about responsibility sooner rather than later.
