What Having A Brother Has Meant To Me

Forever fortunate to have someone to share everything with.

Having a brother means having someone who is straightforward, someone who won’t sugarcoat your failures, especially when he’s excelled at the same thing. He is the cause of your competitive nature and drive from such a young age. As old as you get, the unstated friendly competition doesn’t seem to end.

Having a brother means having someone who will annoyingly eat all of the cookies except one, so when you eat it, you’ll have to replace them. But, a brother also serves as a great resource who will finish the food that you can’t finish. It is always so convenient to have someone to help finish the food that you care for as much.

Having a brother means having to share everything — from toys, to food, to attention — with someone else. It also means that you get the extra attention from your brother. Sharing everything is a small price to pay for being around someone who always has to play with you and entertain you.

Having a brother means being dragged to things you wouldn’t have gone to otherwise. It also means that, at all of your events, you’ll always have someone in the audience to cheer you on. It is also quite entertaining to cheer really loudly for him and embarrass him at his events.

Having a brother means that you’ll always have someone to get under your skin and know every way to annoy you. At the same time, at the end of the day, you know who your biggest fan and support system is. I would be lying if I said that sometimes I didn’t do everything to bug my brother.

Having a brother means that you know someone who will do anything in his power to prove you wrong. It also means that you feel an overwhelming sense of accomplishment when you’ve proven your brother wrong. I guess it is better that he, rather than someone else, proves you wrong and teaches you to stand up for yourself.

Having a brother means that you’ll always have some to tell you that you cry too much and are too emotional. But, he is the same person you call when you’re upset and need to talk to someone. Being siblings means that he is, by unstated law, obligated to pick up your phone call or open his bedroom door when you come with your troubles.

Having a brother means growing up yelling at each other about copying each other. Though, it also helps you realize what a boy version of you would be like. I guess copying is a glorified form of following a role model, so he should feel honored.

Having a brother means growing up, and quite frankly even now, you know that there is someone who will pounce on every chance to tease you. At the same time, it means you’re hanging out with someone who’ll make you laugh a lot. Learning to laugh at yourself is a very important lesson, and if you have a brother, you learn this lesson very early on.

Having a brother means that you are fortunate enough to know that you will always a have a best friend who you can (and do) count on to make you cry, to make you laugh, and everything in between!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
