24 bucket list worthy destinations in your backyard.

Have You Met My Texas Yet?

Now that Spring Break is over (sad face), we can turn our attention to the lovely and cherished summer break. Long hot nights, perfectly tanned bodies and millions of memories are just within arms reach. Now more than ever with social media, it's important to college students to get the perfect "Insta worthy pic" guaranteed to make all of their friends jealous. We spend time googling "summer break destinations," saving our pennies and dimes for months only to spend them extravagantly in foreign countries when we could just be exploring the beautiful state right in front of us. It's easy to take for granted the fact that Texas has so much to offer because we experience it all the time. Texas is a huge destination for many vacationers all year round. Make yourself (and your friends) a bucket list and spend the summer or a weekend checking them off. There's a lot to choose from when it comes to destinations, so I've done the hard work for you (well, the Josh Abbott Band did, but I've broken it down for you).

Twenty-Four Things You Need To Do In Texas

1. Climb Enchanted Rock

Just imagine the view from the top. Remember that what goes up must come down...

2. Drink a Shiner in Luckenbach

Luckenbach, Texas. "Where everybody is somebody."

3. Take your baby to the Riverwalk

A great weekend getaway is a trip to the river walk. Grab your other half and head on down, sit outside and enjoy the view.

4. Float the Frio River

If you haven't had a chance to float the river with your friends yet, I advise you plan a trip ASAP.

5. Hear Red Dirt music on your radio

If you aren't familiar with Red Dirt country, then shame on you. You can find it easily on Pandora.

6. Eat Coopers down in Llano

Pro tip: get the pecan cobbler. You can thank me later.

7. Go to the Houston Rodeo

While you can't do this during the summer, it's definitely still a must on the bucket list. Turkey leg anyone?

8. Sing "Carry On" at a Pat Green show

Seriously, who doesn't love Pat Green?

9. See an Abilene sunset

The picture obviously can't do it enough justice, but definitely makes you want to see it for yourself.

10. Catch a trout down in Port A

OK, note to readers: these aren't trout, but you get the idea. Plus, it would be pretty cool to catch a shark.

11. Know the words to Corpus Christi Bay

Karaoke night anybody?

12. See fireworks out in PK

Second note to readers: I had no earthly idea what "PK" meant in the song until I looked it up. It stands for "Possum Kingdom" state park. Possums kind of freak me out, but these fireworks might just be worth it.

13. Eat a kolache when you go through West Texas

If you don't know what a kolache is, then I feel bad for you son. I got 99 problems but a delicious breakfast treat ain't one.

14. Go to Larry Joe Taylor fest

This item in particular is very high on my own personal bucket list. Annual Texas Country music festival held in late April.

15. See more Texas country concerts (less pop country)

There is just something hugely different about the sound and the feel of the two sub-generes of music. Pop country is like the kid who tries too hard to be cool; Texas country was born cool.

16. Go to the Ft. Worth stock show

Another item high on my personal bucket list. Is it possible to visit too many rodeos? I think not.

17. Sing along with Corry Morrow

*begins to tap foot along to song behind desk* It's pretty contagious.

18. See a Hill country sunset

Another picture that just can't do it enough justice.

19. Hike through Big Bend

There's not a lot of words that can be said here. Breath-taking.

20. Have your hair blown back by Lubbock wind

You'll just have to experience this one on your own; it's pretty incredible.

21. Go somewhere with your friends

My best friend and I talk about taking a trip all the time. There is just something about experiencing things with people you love.

22. Go to the San Antone rodeo

*Another one*

23. Sing "Everclear" at a Roger Creager show

If this doesn't seem like a good time, then I'm not sure what is.

24. See an El Paso sunset

Texas sure is pretty.

Lucky for us, this certainly isn't the end of the list. Texas has hundreds of other hidden gems just waiting for you to discover. Pack your bag; Texas is calling!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
