Okay, listen. I know it's ONLY July, but it's fine. I'm tired of the baking heat, dirty ocean water, and sweat. I am beyond ready for Halloween stores, fun-sized candy, and pumpkin everything. Just speaking of fall makes my heart skip a beat. It's my favorite time of year for all the right reasons. I can't wait until weekdays are chilly, leaves are falling, and Friday nights are spent at amazing haunted houses. Speaking of haunted houses, since that is the BEST part of fall, here are the best haunted houses near the Philadelphia area. P.S. These are in no special order:

1. Eastern State Penitentiary/Terror Behind The Walls

Everyone knows about this house. Once a real working prison, Eastern State housed the worst inmates. When the facility was turned over to the city and shut down, the prisoners were all moved to different places and the penitentiary was abandoned. After the building was vandalized and broken down, the state decided to repair the damage and open it up for tours during the day. Then, Terror Behind The Walls was born. Featuring six different themed trails to walk down and a waiver to sign, you're literally going through the prison without even knowing. Each twist has a different creature ready to jump out at you. There's ramps, small spaces, narrow paths, and stairways leading to mysterious halls. Don't forget to opt in to the glow necklace. Wearing the necklace gives the actors permission to touch you, take you from your group, or use you as part of the show!

2. Pennhurst Asylum

This place severely scared me as well as my 6'5 boyfriend, so it's definitely a must-do. Pennhurst was once a real asylum until their patients were treated horribly and it was shut down. Just knowing how poorly the staff treated the patients and how many of them died on property because of that makes it scary enough. When the asylum was shut down, the rest of the inmates were either sent to another place or just walked out of the doors and never were heard from again. There are three scary attractions to walk through, and then one extra one for paranormal fans. You go through the tunnels underneath, the actual asylum, and a big corridor that patients once walked through. The extra attraction, the Mayflower building, is an actual haunted building. Graffiti, old furniture, and even hospital beds still stand in the rooms that you can go through. In the other attractions, the actors can grab your hair, crawl at your feet, and use you as part of the show.

3. Valley of Fear

Not going to lie, this is my FAVORITE haunted house. It was my first one, and I have always loved it since. For such a small place, the actors are amazing, the makeup is well done, the visuals are nice, and the scares are incredible! There are two attractions to walk through along with a hayride and a zombie paintball attraction. The hayride is a wild ride with different themes. Every year, they have select nights where VOF has a special going on. Horror movie weekend adds your favorite classic characters to the hayride, while clown night has every worker dressed like a clown, leaving the thoughts in the back of your mind that one could be a killer. Honestly, this haunted house never fails to scare me. They always add new and fun things to see.

4. The Bates Motel

I was so scared when I went here that I don't remember much more than a lot of people crawling at my feet. I have to say, the visuals of the hayride here are stunning. They have larger than life animatronics, smoke machines, movies, and more. It all blew me away. There are three attractions (including the hayride) to explore. Although it may not be the scariest I've ever visited, the things to see there are just crazy. They really do an amazing job with making you feel immersed into a situation.

(1835 Middletown Rd, Glen Mills, PA 19342)

5. Shadybrook Farm Horrorfest

Being that this is a farm all year round and that I've been here for Christmas before, I didn't think the Halloween houses would be too scary. I was wrong. There are four attractions, and one was scary enough to make my boyfriend drop everything and run. The hayride is cool, but not the best. We were mainly focused on visiting the trail called "Carnage," and it definitely did not disappoint. It was an awesome place with lots of scary actors. A lot of the scares are the kind where you think something will happen and it doesn't, only for it to happen when you don't expect it. I can't wait for Halloween season just to visit there again!

(931 Stony Hill Rd, Yardley, PA 19067)

6. Frightfest at Six Flags Great Adventure

Another one of my favorites. Having season passes to SFGA for three years now, this is something we visit frequently. Frightfest is truly AMAZING. There are seven haunted trails, four scare zones, and a really cool parade with creepy actors. Their makeup is top of the line, and they'll do anything to scare you, especially if you look unbothered. Some of the trails are generally creepy, making it hard to walk through without latching onto someone. Others are fun with occasional scares but cool things to see. I will recommend going to Frightfest to everyone until I'm blue in the fac. It really is one of the coolest places to go if you're obsessed with Halloween.

Hey, only 104 days until Halloween.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
