Whenever we get into the season of presidential elections, there are always people on both sides who get overly invested and do not listen to anyone else's opinions. I understand that we were all frightened of what was going to happen once someone got into office, but that's no reason for violence and death wishes.
On my last article, I got backlash from many people who were Trump supporters. These comments were ranging from "You don't know what you want you're too young to have a political opinion," to "I hope you get in a car wreck and fly out the windshield on your way there."
I understand that there are people who were worried about Clinton getting into office and because I supported her those people might have felt like they needed to defend their opinions. I will not apologize for writing that article nor will I apologize for voting for Hillary Clinton on election day.
What I will say is this: to the people who left hate comments on my article, how do you think that will solve anything? The people get a chance to voice their opinions but in the end, it comes down to the electoral college and one candidate getting 270 electoral votes.
It became clear to me just how divided our nation is. Instead of embracing differences there are people in this country who fight it and try to suppress the differences that make us all unique individuals.
This was the first presidential election I have voted in and I will continue to vote. However, I am astounded by how adults were acting when people disagree with them. There have been many different acts of violence on both sides of the political spectrum and it is something that needs to change. The only way to "Make America Great Again" is to accept differences and instead of shutting people out of the country, embrace the changes that they could bring to change the country for the better.
