It is 2019 and we are still banning books, yesterday a story came out that a Catholic school in Tennessee has banned the Harry Potter books, saying that the spells in the books are real and can conjure up real evil spirits. Do this Reverend not understand the difference between fiction and reality?
Rev. Dan Reehil, says "The curses and spells used in the books are actual curses and spells; which when read by a human being risk conjuring evil spirits into the presence of the person reading the text," the email, obtained by WTVF, states. "I have consulted several exorcists, both in the United States and in Rome, and they have recommended removing the books from circulation."
He also states that, The books "glorify acts of divination; of conjuring the dead, of casting spells among other acts that are an offense to the virtue of religion — to the love and respect we owe to God alone," Reehil wrote, adding: "Many reading these books could be persuaded to believe these acts are perfectly fine, even good or spiritually healthy."
Does he not realize that not everyone has the same views as he does, so many people from all backgrounds and religions love these books, and to think that the spells in the books are real is crazy. and if you want to people to take you seriously then don't say that you consulted with exorcists, and that's how you know that the books contain evil spells and curses.
People read these books every day and read them out loud to their kids, plus you have all the movies, and it's not like people are watching it on mute, so with all the spells in the movies, that means every household should have evil spirits in wondering around right. I have never heard of any story of real evil spirits coming to life from reading a Harry Potter book, or any book for that matter.
I think this guy needs to have his head check and stop shoving his beliefs down everyone's throat. We need to stop banning books, we get knowledge and fun when we read. I am a lover of books and will read anything and everything if I get a chance, and that's how it should be.
This is the first time that the Harry Potter series has been banned in educational settings, according to the American Library Association, Harry Potter is one of the most challenged books published between 1990 to 1999, and was the most challenged book from 2000 to 2009.
People have lost their mind, they want to ban books and blame video games, as long as you teach your child that these things are not real and are all fiction and they understand that, you won't have an issue. But to have a grown-ass man think that all the curses and spells are real is crazy.
If people are starting to ban books again, what's going to stop them to start burning and outlawing certain books. This is not Fahrenheit t 451, stop making people think that books are evil and what is inside them can conjure evil spirits. Stop trying to make people believe what you want them to, we have the freedom to read what we want so stop trying to take that away.
