It seems like nowadays most people have at least one social media that they use; whether it be twitter, Instagram, Facebook, VSCO, Snapchat, Pinterest, Tinder and the list goes on.

Sure, it's great to be more connected with people, especially those long-distance friends or family. But sometimes, social media can be known for taking away this connection you may have. Social Media can be harmful in several ways and the worst part is that we don't even realize its effects on us.

1. Am I addicted to it?

This may be hard to believe for some but social media is very addictive and the more apps you are active on, the more likely you are to be addicted to them.

Symptoms of this addiction include thinking about the app when you are not online, planning your future use of the app, sudden urges to go online or to post, and overall a negative impact on relationships and your life. Several people are addicted and do not even realize which is why it's good to be conscious of this issue and address where you stand.

2. Has it ever lowered my self esteem?

Social media is a place where you may find yourself comparing your life, accomplishments and body to others and when you compare yourself to others, the outcome is usually negative.

With how many people are online, you're very likely to come across at least one person you may feel jealous of. Maybe you wish you had their job or their gorgeous boyfriend, or their killer abs.

The point is that jealousy easily rises with these apps and self-esteem easily lowers. A feeling that you are not good enough is so common to feel and that shouldn't be a normal occurrence.

3. Do I waste too much time on the app?

Depending on the number of apps you are active on and how bored you are, the time spent checking social media can be a very long time.

As someone who checks social media when they are procrastinating, let me say that a lot of time can be wasted through these apps. That's why it's always a good idea to limit the amount of time you use social media each day.

4. Do I feel obligated to check it?

If you are active enough on an app, you begin to feel obligated to check it all the time. If your notifications are on, it's even worse. You also might feel the obligation to post things to the app such as photos and tweets, just to keep up with everyone else. This would just add stress to your life that should be avoided.

5. Am I careful of what I post?

With posting pictures, tweets, and sending Snapchats, you can be left very exposed. For those who have public profiles, anyone can click on your feed and learn the information about you that you put out there.

Yes, every already knows this, but we forget how dangerous posting can be and there's not always enough sensitivity as there should be.

People can always delete a post but by then, people may have already seen it and shared it with others. It is impossible to truly take back what you already put out there and if certain posts get into the wrong hands, it can be dangerous.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with using social media but it is good to be conscious of your usage and its effects on you.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
