The hardest part about going to college is deciding what you want to spend the rest of your life doing. Parents, teachers and anyone not in school think it is easy to pick a major. I, for one, have always heard people say "just pick something, it's not that hard", but the thing is, it is that hard. Deciding what you want to spend the rest of your life doing right after you graduate high school is difficult, and having no regrets about it is even harder.
However, most people go through the phase of regretting, or having second thoughts, about what they are majoring in and it doesn't help when people always seem to question or doubt your chosen major or career path. That's actually, believe it or not, one of the most challenging things a college student could have to deal with. How do you have no doubts about your chosen major when everyone who asks what your major is says "oh and what are you going to do with that?"
Even if you may know exactly what you want to do with your degree, after a while of being asked this, and other related questions, you tend to start second guessing yourself. This is when you start looking into other majors and trying to pick something that will please the crowd better. Something that looks more appealing to the masses, but then you realize that it's too late to pick something else because you're too far along in school and can't afford, literally, to start over.
Let's use me as an example. I'm majoring in English, but everyone who asks me about my major always asks if I want to be a teacher. I say no and then they ask the above question. They always think I should be in a math or science program because a humanities major, especially English, has no future, but in my experience thus far, English degrees are becoming more in demand because of the inability of the digital age to properly communicate.
My advice? Stay true to your heart. I know, easier said than done, but don't worry, there is a job out there for everyone. All you have to do is work hard and don't give up.
