Trust me, single moms want to go on dates. We want to dress up and look pretty, get out of our mom jeans and t-shirts and go out to dinner with you. However, it is sometimes impossible to date us and here are five reasons why.
1. YOU WILL NEVER BE OUR FIRST PRIORITY.
I know it sounds harsh but, it is 100% true. From the moment, we found out we were pregnant nothing and no one came before our little peanuts. This is never going to change. You might be able to be a close second but don’t ever doubt we won’t drop you in 3 seconds for our kids. That’s just how it goes.
2. CANCELLING PLANS HAPPENS MORE THAN ACTUAL PLANS
Life with kids is unpredictable. They get sick, they throw tantrums, babysitters cancel, and sometimes they just want their moms. Dates and plans will more than likely be canceled when you're dating a mom because referring back to number 1, the kids come first.
3. SURPRISES NEVER WORK
You must let us know at least a week in advance if you’re planning a big night. You may be able to drop everything and spring into an adventure, we cannot. We need to find a babysitter and time accordingly when we need to be home to our babies. We are always on a schedule.
4. WE WILL MOMMY YOU
Don’t freak out when I do the little finger lick and wipe your face thing. I spend all my time with a toddler and if I don’t do that, his face will stay dirty all day. Also, I probably sound bossy, well that’s because I am the boss at home. Also, my conversational skills won’t be that great so don’t be surprised if you find me talking about the newest Mickey Mouse episode instead of the hottest song on the radio.
5. WE'RE EXHAUSTED 24/7
There won’t be a time you spend with us when we aren’t tired. We're always tired. So instead of a club, party, concert or anything actually fun, why don’t we lay down and watch a movie while I most likely nod off on you. Sorry for the drool on your shirt.
While it is super hard to date a single mom, it will be worth it. She will make you open your eyes to the world and make you appreciate the little things, as you will do for her. The small amounts of time you will spend with her will be golden moments in her eyes. It will be hard yes, but it will be worth it.
