The Difficulties Of Being A Straight White Male In Comedy

Comedy is one of the most unifying things in the world. When everyone gets a joke, we share a laugh, form bonds, and feel better. However, it is open season for straight white male (SWM) comedians. I got exclusive quotes from men in the top of their field (or it might have just been a guy in a band t-shirt with a flannel over top). Take it easy. They are going through a rough time.

"What do you MEAN I can't make fun of minorites??"

PC culture really is ruining everything. Back in the day, he used to get a laugh from slurs, and now he can't even say the n-word anymore? Preposterous.

"You mean I have to write new jokes? Ugh."

The Small-Dick Asian joke always killed! The Black Face Bit always got a huge roar from the crowd! The Gay Impressions made them feel better about their masculinity! How can he ever get better than that?

"Life has never been harder for us, and that is saying something."

For centuries, the SWM has always been on the bottom of the totem pole: reverse racism, getting told they have "white privilege," being afraid to wear their KKK costumes out in public. But kicking him while he is down? Unforgivable. Think about the person behind the hood next time you wanna talk down to him.

"I live in constant fear of being canceled."

He didn't get fired for telling Shelia she'd look better without a bra. He didn't get fired for tweeting at Drake: "I appreciate your work ethic. Normally you guys don't get this much done." Hell, he didn't even get a stern talking to when he asked Li where the best place to get "nerders" is. But now, saying one wrong thing could ruin his life. How DARE the SJW's be so up on making sure he stays in check!

"I am supposed to push boundaries."

This part was the hardest to write. He was telling me the most crestfallen story about how he broke through the glass ceiling to allow women the privilege of being funny. He opened the door for so many SWM to come after him. Now he gets fired from his job for doing the exact same thing? Disgraceful. If we are so into equality and feminism nowadays, how come he can't hit women back? Huh? How come he can't call his gay friend a f*****?

You heard it here first, folks. Stop being such a snowflake, and let SWM comedians get back to getting away with saying and doing horrible things, ok? It's been that way for so long. No need to change things now.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
