Happy Rushing!

Here's to a merry rushing and a happy active semester!

Happy Rushing!
Erin Thoresen

Here's to rush week! It is safe to say not only is this my favorite week, but my most stressful also. I can still remember walking into rush events shaking with no clue what to expect. Now, I bolt in early with way more excitement than necessary as we meet future sisters! Rush week can get pretty crazy and it is easy to get caught up in the excitement so here's a little something to ease all of our little rushee's minds.

We don't know you very well and we sure as heck don't know your personality. If you want to impress us, just be yourself and speak to us. We will love the effort and will automatically love you. Speaking from personal experience I know that is easier said than done. However, know that if you are quiet, someone is going to come to you. I was pretty shy at rush so I was so thankful when a girl (who 6 weeks later became my big) came and spoke to me and we were instant friends. So if you are welcoming to us and accept our weirdness, you will have no problems fitting in.

Sororities aren't just for crazy, model status girls. Speaking for my sorority, Sigma Alpha, specifically; we have such a variety of girls and I believe that makes us closer as a family. Our philanthropy is devoted to broadcasting and teaching the community about agriculture. We have some girls who have lived on farms their whole lives and others who have never even seen a cow in person. Nonetheless, there is a place for everyone here.

This will be your forever Greek family, SO RUSH WISELY. I am slightly biased so of course I am going to tell you how perfect and great my sorority is. However, this is your future and your college career. There is a lot of commitment involved and a lot of responsibilities that come with all the fun. So really get to know all of the girls and know what is expected of you before excepting a bid. I know how fun and great it all looks during rush week but don't forget that there are a lot of things expected of you. We still have all kinds of fun year round and we make friendships that will last a lifetime so if you're good with a little work and a lot devoted time, we are the group for you!

I hope everyone has a fun and safe rush week. Please remember that this is your future so take charge and really know what you are "rushing" into (pun intended). There is so much we have to look forward to in not only rush but the semester to come. So if you are in for some awesome adventures then come on out and meet some new people. Who knows, you could meet your future big or even twin without even knowing it!

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
