Well Happy Halloween! At least for most people. Everyone I talk to gets excited for Halloween. They overthink the costumes and parties they are attending. I, on the other hand, don't. Sure it might be entertaining to throw on a costume resembling some interest of yours or a scary mask to have fun with your friends and randoms on campus, but to me Halloween is just another day of the year.
You can go have fun and get trashed (if you're 21), eat all that candy and say you have an excuse to, but
that's just it. It is an excuse for children, young adults, and whomever wants to indulge in their favorite candies. Maybe if we walked around handing each other homemade all-natural or organic candy/sweets, we would feel a little better about it, because we all know what they put in the candy, right? If you know then you might not really care, like most Americans who pretty much poison their bodies on a daily basis, but if you do care about the toxins thrown into the ingredients of most candy then you might agree that Halloween is just another excuse to eat unhealthy and not feel as bad about it...
...just like it is an excuse to drink and party all night and not feel so guilty about it. There are many other ways to have fun on Halloween or any other day of the year. Instead of partying, just get together with a small group of friends and watch a scary movie, go to a haunted house, have a haunted games night with charades and card games while you are dressed up, or just go enjoy the cold night at the courts in a late-night game of basketball, soccer, or whatever you like, while wearing your costumes of course. Then, the next morning, feel like a million bucks, instead of a brain-fogged mess.
Imagine if all the people in America never handed out candy, and in the candy's place they handed out any number of healthy snacks or even wise quotes or lessons to be learned. Halloween wouldn't just be about dressing up, getting candy-wasted, and partying. It could be a time when we shared the best things with each other, and instead of waking up the next morning hung over from all that candy and such, you could wake up and be healthier, more educated, and still have great memories to look back on. That being said, I hope you enjoyed Halloween, in whatever way you chose, but keep in mind the points covered in this article for the next time around. Thank you for reading this, and I hope it wasn't too pessimistic for anyone.
Oh, and Boo!
