Happy Black History Month.. Correction, Happy American History: My Black Perspective

Black history does not stand on its own, it stands with all who contributed to making America what it was before January 20th. Meaning Black history is not separate from American history because it IS American History.

DISCLAIMER: Hey ya’ll, I’m not going to dig too deep in the black experience since Progressive — the insurance company, might consider mass incarceration, the PIC, or systemic racism a conspiracy, and mask it as a ‘theory’ for political correctness. So here’s the basics!

Why do pro-black people highlight being black so much?

Why is there a BET, a BlackGirlMagic hash tag and a BlackPeopleMeet.com?

Well, what’s the difference between TRESemme and Blue Magic?

Do you even know what Blue Magic is? And Google doesn’t count.

For those who dont know, BlackPeopleMeet.com is a dating website for black singles. According to BlackPeopleMeet.com “black dating has never been so easy. BlackPeopleMeet provides a simple, safe and fun atmosphere which makes it easy to quickly view and contact thousands of black singles in your area.” Basically the site is for black dating, but why are black-on-black dates so important?

Well, I believe one reason is the preservation of black families in America, in other words — keep black alive. Since blacks are disproportionately incarcerated for state-level offenses and are dying at alarming rates. Which has lead to the decrease in the two parent household — from 78% to 56% after 1980, or after the introduction of crack into inner cities — Selling and using alike, hence the purpose of BlackPeopleMeet.com — but that’s all circumstantial.

BUT, if you want to know more, I got you. Read and watch this.

As for BET and #BlackGirlMagic, blacks don’t feel their culture is included or empowered in mainstream America. And when I say mainstream America, I mean the news, movies, television shows, I could go all day.

We have rights according to the constitution, but what is blue magic? If you are not sure then we are not treated equally. Meaning black culture is not properly represented in mainstream America — making black history a thing instead of being plain old history. Also if black culture — not history, but CULTURE, is represented, it is either misrepresented, reinvented as something new or mocked. Hence the show Prison Break and their idea of blackness — watch the show it’s really good but ideologically racist — along with boxer braids and Progressive’s definition of woke. Yeah real progressive. Have you seen that commercial? Grime.

Why did Progressive do that though? Better yet, why do some people challenge or mock blacks when they do certain things to gain a sense of understanding or empowerment?

I remember explaining the connection between black and African culture to a white guy and he told me blacks are not African so they should not connect to Africa.

Like, why you gotta be so negative!?

He was ignorant and unaware of the black experience, that’s why. So he unknowingly disrespected me while eliminating the whole idea of Afrocentric culture as a vessel for black empowerment.

Ankh

Little does he know the Ankh is more than a cross with a round top. It is a symbol of consciousness. A signifier for self-awareness — a black person who is no longer burdened by the inferiority complex conditioned by mainstream America. Some blacks connect to Kemet aka Egypt, not because the people were African; but because they were black. Blacks can now demonstrate black empowerment regardless of their ancestors being captured, beaten, bullied, and treated like submissive children for over 300 years — which they are constantly reminded of. That does something to your pride. Something that whites will never feel.

Is this the answer to my previous question?

Why did Progressive do that though? Better yet, why do some people challenge or mock blacks when they do certain things to gain a sense of understanding or empowerment?

Deep within the white subconscious there is a fear of retaliation from their ancestor’s actions. They fear, because they do not know black history — just like us. But I am here to tell you all, it is not your fault. It was never a part of the history curriculum, so how could any of us know more than Harriet Tubman and Martin Luther King Jr.? Blacks are not just slavery or just connected to Kemet. There were black American leaders who contributed to America with their talents, gifts and inventions and we know nothing about them.

We all need to realize, whether you are black, white, hispanic or Asian, we feel the same way. We just happen to look different and that’s what makes us special.

Try to understand people, you might just get them.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
