Summer birthdays are a very common thing, it seems. One of my very favorite humans is celebrating her birthday this week, so birthdays are on my mind. Even though my birthday is in April, I present to you (*drum roll please*) the very best non-traditional birthday songs! (Disclaimer: These are in no particular order, but rather simply in the order I thought of them in.)
1. Katy Perry's Birthday
How could you forget this one? Katy Perry is an actual queen, and her songs never fall short of incredible.
2. Selena Gomez's Birthday
Hers isn't nearly as popular or catchy but it deserves a little recognition.
3. The Emperor's New Groove Birthday
This one is a personal favorite of mine because this movie is just such a forgotten gem.
4. Marilyn Monroe's performance of Happy Birthday, Mr. President
This is a classic. I felt it was obligatory to include because no one ever sang it like she did before or after this. Feel free to skip to about the 1:40 mark for the start of the song.
5. Happy happy birthday song.
This one is my favorite, actually. I don't have any other explanation than that.
6. Happy Birthday by the Chipmunks
I mean, come on. It's the female chipmunks.
7. Overenthusiastic Birthday Song (As I will call it here)
This one is good for some pep in your step on your big day.
8. Techno Birthday
I don't even know what they are saying at some points in here. So, here's hoping it's some pretty nice stuff.
9. Trip Around the Sun
Martina McBride and Jimmy Buffet? Yes, please.
10. New Kids on the Block Birthday
They may not be so new on the block anymore, but this song is still sweet.
11. The Beatles Happy Birthday
I have no comments.
12. It's my Party by Leslie Gore
I am not sure why I feel inclined to include this. Perhaps it's because it has been sung to me on my birthday a lot. Oops.
13. Mariah Carey singing Happy Birthday
I have a special place in my heart for her, so this seems like a good way to round it all out.
Now, this is in no way comprehensive, because there are hundreds of happy birthday covers and renditions, but I hope you enjoy these lucky 13. Here's to many more times when it's your turn to blow out the candles.
Happy birthday, this one is for you. Again.
