December 19th is my mom's birthday, so I wanted to give her a big shout-out one that she entirely deserves. I don't think I thank her enough for everything she has done for me and our family and I definitely don't tell her "I love you" as much as I should. So, mom, this one's for you.
It's sometimes difficult for me to express that; I don't quite know why, but saying "I love you" out loud to my parents takes a moment of pause, like I'm standing at the edge of a small cliff and preparing to jump to the other side.
Mom, I do love you. So much. You're an amazing woman, mother, and individual, not just because of your dedication to this family, but because of your essence as a human being. You have a lot of good in you waiting to be expressed – and you do express it.
By inviting me out to Babylon's Christmas fair in early December and giving me another dollar so I could afford that churro Swell Taco's stand was selling (I almost never carry cash, so this was a lifesaver).
By asking me if I've eaten and if everything is alright.
By smiling at me and hugging me and telling me that you love me.
By supporting me through my life and coming to understand the decisions I've made and what kind of person I have become.
You might be proud of me, but I'm also proud of you. We both have work to do on ourselves, as everyone does, but I want you to know that you can do anything because you are 100 percent capable of it.
Ride that horse. Go to college. Travel the world. Achieve your dreams.
Do what you want to do. Build up a healthy relationship with yourself and those around you. Be who you want to be.
Happy birthday, Mom. I'm here for and with you and I always will be.
