A Handful Of Thank Yous For My Mom

It's about time I thank you for being a real life superhero.

Thank you for teaching me to love myself, even still to this day (probably more so now than ever before). And even though I'm still struggling with it, thank you for not letting me stop trying.

Thank you for listening to all of my stories; good, bad, and everything in-between.

Thank you for doing my hair in elementary school only for me to rip it out 10 minutes after you dropped me off at school. And even though you continuously told me you wouldn't do my hair again, you always did—thank you.

Thank you for constantly being my unofficial chauffeur when I was growing up: picking me up, dropping me off, to appointments, practices, friends' houses.

Thank you for always asking me how my day is, even after the stressful, crazy days you have.

Thank you for hiding my eyeliner from me in high school. I may not have been thankful then, but I sure am now.

Thank you for accepting my weirdness.

Thank you for teaching me the importance of long naps on a Saturday afternoon. And, thank you for always making a cute tray of snacks after our naps when I was younger, creating a picnic for us on your bed.

Thank you for cooking dinner every single night. It wasn't until I got older when I learned that this is rare.

Thank you for checking up on me in high school when I was upset but never willing to talk. Again, I may not have appreciated it then, but I do now.

Thank you for letting me cry and not judging me for my full-blown snot-coming-out-my-nose, gasping-for-breath, mascara-running-down-my-face sobs.

Thank you for telling me that I shouldn't want a boy who ignores me; I should want a boy who will fall all over me.

Thank you for telling me that my "friend" wasn't actually my friend. Somehow you were right every time.

Thank you for not giving me everything I wanted. While I definitely didn't appreciate it then, I do now... sometimes.

Thank you for being selfless and putting your family's needs before your own. It never went unnoticed.

Thank you for teaching me that picking your battles is important and compromise is the key to relationships (although I'm still in the process of learning these).

Thank you for going grocery shopping every week so we always have an abundance of fresh food, the cupboards never empty.

Thank you for defending me at times when I probably should not have been defended.

Thank you for trying to understand the latest lingo, whatever it may be, and then giving me a good laugh when using it completely wrong.

Thank you for telling me how cute I look even when I know the mirror says otherwise.

Thank you for always being my #1 supporter.

Thank you for being one of my best friends.

Thank you for watching chick flicks with me, shoving our faces with junk food and falling asleep far too early.

Thank you for scheduling my appointments, even now that I'm an adult.

Thank you for driving me to school all those times I missed the bus in high school because I was too busy straightening my hair.

Thank you for taking care of me when I'm sick.

Thank you for being the best mom I could ever ask for.

Thank you for being the best role model.

Thank you for being the kind, caring and loving woman you are.

Thank you for reading this article.

Thank you for reading all my articles.

I figured it was time you had an article dedicated solely to you because you're awesome and everyone should know it.

No, I'm not just saying that because I want something. I genuinely mean it and I deeply appreciate everything you have done, everything you do, and everything you will no doubt do for me in the future.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
