Hamilton has taken the world by storm. Whether you are a Broadway musical fanatic, a history nerd, or you just appreciate music and love your country, everyone has heard the mention of this performance. Lin Manuel Miranda has created a one-of-a-kind artistic impression that blends American history and music into perfect harmony. So you may know every line to every song, or you may not even know any, but everyone can learn to love this soundtrack. Here are ten of my favorite Hamilton lyrics.
1. "I'm erasing myself from the narrative. Let future historians wonder how Eliza reacted when you broke her heart."
I don't think there will every become a day when I can listen to "Burn" without crying hysterically. Eliza is such a strong women in not only the musical but during and after Hamilton's life. She doesn't take crap from Hamilton, but still loves him through his mistakes.
2. "When push comes to shove, I will kill your friends and family to remind you of my love."
Ok...you're going to think it is strange to say that this is a favorite line but how can you not love this King George lyric. His comic relief and subtle digs at the actions of the Americans make him appear as a clingy, awful boyfriend. It is almost like a breakup song that he is singing to the breakup of the colonies.
3. "Look around. Look around. How lucky we are to be alive right now."
It seems to be a constant motif throughout the show. It is a great line that everyone can get joy out of.
4. "I'm writin' a letter nightly. Now my life gets better, every letter that you write me."
#RelationshipGoals. Well, besides the whole Hamilton cheating on her part. Eliza is so devoted to Alexander. Cue the tears as the wedding music plays at the end of "Helpless."
5. "My Dearest Angelica. With a comma after dearest. You've written, My dearest, Angelica."
Well isn't this one awkward. Hamilton and Eliza's sister, Angelica have seemed to have a "flirt-ationship" via letters that they write back and forth to each other.
6. "In the end, they wrote eighty-five essays, in the span of six months. John Jay got sick after writing five. James Madison wrote twenty-nine. Hamilton wrote the other fifty-one."
There will never come a day where I don't hear this line without getting goosebumps. Not only is it spoken in a powerful tone, but it is a pivotal moment in American history and this musical continues to effortlessly blend history and melodies to give life to past events.
7. "I established the first private orphanage in New York City. I help to raise hundreds of children. I get to see them grow up."
...And cue the tears yet again. Eliza was so selfless and wanted so much to do everything that Alexander would have wanted to be done. She devoted her life to continuing the work of Hamilton.
8. "I put myself back in the narrative."
Eliza 100000. My emotions 0. Eliza is again, proving to be the most selfless woman there is. Regardless of what she sang about in "Burn" she proves to want to continue Alexander's story.
9. "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal. And when I meet Thomas Jefferson, Imma compel him to include women in the sequel."
FEMINISM! If this ain't a good female empowerment jam, I'm not sure what is!
10. "If it takes fighting a war for us to meet, it will have been worth it."
Mostly had to pick this one because it is so cute. Hamilton is such a flirt.
