For anyone interested in musical theater, American history, or both, Lin-Manuel Miranda's musical "Hamilton" is a must-see. Or, a must-hear since tickets to be in The Room Where it Happens are sold out through October, but the soundtrack can be found online. After listening to the catchy hip-hop musical a few times, you may become obsessed and find yourself incorporating titles of songs, or even the lyrics themselves, into your everyday speech. You may already say a few of them. They're fairly common phrases, but now you'll start singing "Hamilton" in your head. Or out loud (just be mindful of stares from passerby).
If you're stuck on how to work this musical masterpiece into your vernacular or are wondering why some people you know have suddenly broken into a rap about one of our founding fathers, search no further. I am "not throwing away my shot" to share five fairly simple ways to allude to "Hamilton."
1.
When you're absolutely starving and want nothing more than to get dinner but your friends are busy and tell you to go without them. However, you don't really want to get dinner by yourself so you tell them you'll "Wait for It."
2.
If you're off in class or the library and people are all hanging out in your room or suite, never fear. It's too bad you weren't able to spend time with them, but at least you get the pleasure of crashing through the door singing "What'd I Miss?"
3.
We all have at least one friend who is always working Non-Stop, and sometimes you just have to go up to them and tell them to Take a Break.
4.
Friend: Hey, who's *insert name of guy at your school* You: I Know Him
5.
When it's finally the end of the semester, gather up all of your notes One Last Time, take them outside, and watch them Burn.
I do apologize for all of the puns, I'm just a little Helpless when it comes to this musical. I hope you're as Satisfied as I am with this new popular musical and find as many ways as possible to slip it into conversation. Aside from getting all the songs stuck in your head for hours—if they were ever even gone—you get to pass knowledge of "Hamilton" on to all those around you. It's sure to Blow [them] All Away.
Who can Say No to This?
