I love summer. I love being able to throw on a tank and shorts, love going to the beach and most importantly, I love ice cream. I'm always craving ice cream, especially when it's 85 degrees out and I'm just lounging around the pool. The only problem with ice cream is that it's not exactly good for you. The average serving size of Ben & Jerry's or Haagan Daz contains about 21 grams of sugar, 250 calories and only has two grams of protein. Now let me remind you, this is one serving size, which is a half of a cup. I don't know about you, but if I'm going to be eating some delicious ice cream, I'm going to be having at least a full cup, probably more. This is why I was the happiest girl in the world when a friend introduced me to Halo Top.
Halo Top is an ice cream brand that is good for you. Yes, ice cream that is actually good for you. Guess what? It also tastes amazing. This isn't some Arctic Zero that tastes like ice cubes in a box. (Sorry, Arctic Zero, but it's true.) This stuff tastes like actual ice cream! It gets better. An entire pint of Halo Top, depending on the flavors, is between 240 and 280 calories, a whole pint, as in two cups, or four serving sizes, of ice cream. That means, compared to the most popular ice cream brands, you can eat a whole pint of Halo Top and still be better off than eating only a half a cup of the leading brands. Not only does Halo Top have fewer calories, but in one serving, there are only two grams of fat and four grams of sugar. Yes, I said four grams of sugar. It even has six grams of protein, so it's basically the only ice cream that is more than OK to eat after a workout.
Now, how are they able to do this and still make the ice cream taste good? Two words: organic stevia. Stevia is a sugar substitute that is actually good for you, and contains zero calories. It's not a Splenda or any other sugar substitute that has a bunch of unhealthy chemicals. Stevia actually come from a plant that's been used for hundreds of years. Erythritol is also found in Halo Top, but this is a natural sweetener that is commonly found in many fruits. It is a sugar alcohol, but it doesn't cause bloating or affect blood glucose. This really is the miracle ice cream, but it is a little bit on the pricier side at $5.99 a pint, but is more than worth it. If you're interested in trying Halo Top, you can find it at your local Kroger or Whole Foods, or you can even purchase it on their website. You won't regret it, and you'll never feel guilty about eating a whole pint of ice cream again.
