Hello, Internet!
It's that time of year again, Facebook and Instagram feeds are full of pumpkins in all their forms–Pumpkin Spice Latte, Jack-O-lanterns, PUMPKIN EVERYTHING–and if you love horror movies like I do then it's time to start watching them! With only a week left till All Hallows Eve, we have a lot of movies to catch up on!
I have this list you see, a list I have created for myself and you to enjoy, and it contains all the classic horror films I plan on watching this coming week. Halloween doesn't have to be one day of the year if you don't want it to be! Personally I make it Halloween month, but now we only have a week left and it's time to get to business.
Not only do I love horror movies, but I love food. Obsessed with it, eat it every day. I have come up with a good combination for your viewing and tasting pleasures.
Note: I do partake in the alcoholic beverage once in a while, and don't recommend drinking to anyone under 21 years of age so non-alcoholic drinks shall also be mentioned so you aren't left out.
Monday
It's a Monday, so let's start light.
Jaws (1975)
Is this really a horror movie? If you are afraid of sharks, the answer is yes. I watch this movie with a smile on my face, not only because the lines are fantastic, sometimes cheesy, but a classic film. Deserves to be watched, and like I said it's light and easy to start out, don't just dive in deep with the gore and jump scares!
Food: I would pair this with sushi of any type, as long as you feel the human supremacy over fish you will enjoy the movie.
Alcoholic drink choice: Shark bite (easy instructions here) if you like rum and the color blue this is going to be your jam.
Non-alcoholic: Blue lemonade (fun way to make it here) this is a great drink, it's fun and will be very festive!
Tuesday
The Exorcist (1973)
If you have never seen this movie before, boy you are in for a treat! Just be sure to eat all your food before or after the uh...green vomit part. Not only is this film quite chilling, it is highly rated and definitely a movie you need to see before you die.
Food: you probably can guess...Split pea soup (great recipe here) I know it's gross looking especially when you watch the scene where she spews it from her mouth, but it's fun and tasty and all around fun for all!
Alcoholic drink: Glowing gecko (recipe and instructions here) although I would rename it, it is a great colored drink that will match your split pea soup nicely (ew but cool right?).
Wednesday
The Thing (1982)
Switching to the 80's now! Not only will you experience mullets and the cheesy one liners that came from that gorgeous era, you will also get Kurt Russell, who I personally love in every movie he has ever been in. This one is no exception, he is amazing, the practical special effects were great for their time, and you will enjoy the mystery and gore of the movie.
Food: This one is a little bit of a stretch. I'm going to go for this lovely recipe for pork dumplings that just look like lumpy body parts–who wouldn't want to eat that!? (Recipe here).
Alcoholic substance: Liquefied ghost cocktail (find it here) it just looks like the spooky body changing alien, maybe you'll see it pop out of your glass!
Thursday
The Birds (1963)
Jumping back in time, I would suggest a Hitchcock movie to be classy. I love this movie, and when the birds attack. Man, it has made me wary of any murder of crows I see gathered in town.
Food choice: Buffalo wings. (I like this recipe, baked ones are super good!) Just to show your dominance over the winged creatures that attack onscreen characters. Maybe drizzle some sriracha over them for looks.
Alcoholic beverage: Black widow cocktail (recipe located here) just gives off that black bird and blood vibe. I recommend watching the black and white version of the film, but if you HAVE to watch the colored version, you will match quite well with the screen!
Non-alcoholic: I would do Cherry Coke. It gives off that red tinted black liquid that tastes oh so good and will match the murder of crows nicely.
Friday
Friday the 13th (1980)
Who would've guessed right? Not only is this movie an odd classic, it is the first real slasher film so far this week. And you may change this movie selection to any of your favorite sequels (Jason X is mine, because they are in space and nothing gets better than that). Or, if you are more of a Nightmare on Elm St fan, I would suggest Freddy VS Jason because of it is also a masterpiece full of blood and gore and
Food choice: Spaghetti dogs (recipe here) why you may ask? I just thought it was strange and weird, which is how I feel about this movie and the many sequels that have come from it. They are very fun to make too, so where can you go wrong?
Alcoholic draaaank: Friday night! I know what I'm going to do--drinking game time! This movie is perfect for your any type of game you want, but here is one I think is perfect for this movie! The fun pretty cocktail I would choose is called Black Devil Martini (here's the recipe) it's black and pretty and yummy. Try it!
Non-alcohol: Maybe some good ol' hot chocolate will do you good with the cabin-esque feel for the movie, or drink coffee like they do in the film.
Saturday
The Lost Boys (1987)
If you love vampires, this is your movie. Also, if you are following Corey Feldman's music career you will also enjoy seeing him young and a little less crazy. This movie has the greatest music, some iconic actors you may recognize, and it's about vampires! My favorite! YAY! If you need another vampire themed movie I would recommend Fright Night the original or even the remake because it was actually a great rendition, it's a little more updated for those who need a newer movie.
Food: Anything with garlic in it and you are set. I would suggest something fun like roasted garlic crostini (recipe and other great ideas here)
Drinks: Bloody good milkshake shots! (Recipe here) these can be either with or without alcohol, and are so fun and tasty! That's a darn good milkshake!
Sunday
Cabin in the Woods (2011)
Now I know that I'm jumping around on the timeline of horror movies, but most of them were made in the late 70's-80's. They are the classics, the ones you need to watch before you can consider yourself a connoisseur of horror like I call myself sometimes. I could stick with the theme of old classics--Rosemary's Baby, Carrie, Psycho, Night of the Living Dead, The Omen, The Wicker Man, Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein, etc. But I love Cabin in the Woods because it plays on the stereotypical horror movies and the characters inside them. It's comical mixed with horror, I believe that is the best mixture of all!
Food: I would stick to some meaty dinner--maybe a steak dinner of your choosing! Be sure it's nice
Drinks of the alcoholic type: Bloody Mary time! Good recipe right here and be sure to have some fun with the garnish.
Non-drinky drinks: I would say virgin bloody Mary--which fits well with the movie I think (the virgin part at least).
Monday
Halloween (1978)
It's Halloween time! YAY! Time to party! Dress up, have fun even though it's a Monday! If you watch the movie Halloween you will have a great night--not only will the music be stuck in your head, but you can admire the late 70's fashion and from afar wish you were Jamie Lee Curtis...Oh is that just me? Okay then. Moving on.
Food: Go crazy with the pumpkin stuff while you can! I would suggest these fun looking Jack-O'-Lantern pot pies!
Alcohol: Black magic cocktail (instructions are here) It's fun, spoopy, creative, and festive as heck!
Non-alcohol related: I would get my hands on a PSL if I were you, or maybe some nice hot apple cider. On a cold windy night, it is just what you need for Monday night fun.
Thanks so much for reading! Please share with your friends, and if you have any other movies or suggestions leave a comment below I would love to hear what you are going to be watching/eating/drinking this last week of October.
Be safe! Drink responsibly! Scare your friends! Have a happy Halloween!
