College is the time for exploration, self discovery, and independence. Often times, it is difficult to find who you really are while in college. My university is particularly difficult because of it's number of students. My freshmen and sophomore year I wasn't really sure what I wanted in college or who I wanted to be. I spent my freshmen year with a major I didn't even like. I would go to classes and then go home with no real desire to do much else. I never felt like I found something I really liked in college. I joined a sorority and realized it wasn't for me, I joined clubs here and there and none of them really felt like I belonged there. After two years of college, I now finally feel like I know who I want to be.
1. Take risks. As many as you can. Apply to study abroad, introduce yourself to someone in one of your classes, join a club that you otherwise wouldn't have joined. My best decisions in college were ones that initially scared me a little bit.
2. Don't wait. If you want to start a new fitness regimen or finish a paper that isn't due until next week, do it. Don't waste your time worrying about what needs to be done, just do it. It is never a good idea to push things off until the last minute.
3. Do not keep anything in your life that doesn't make you happy. If you hate your major, change it. If you hate your job, quit. There is no need to continue living a life that does not completely satisfy you, especially in your twenties.
4. Always work for better. Whether it's in school or at work or even in your social life, always push yourself to do better, to be better, and to live better.
5. Never ever settle. Do not settle for average friends, average grades, or average relationships.
6. Understand your worth. My biggest problem was thinking that things weren't going well because that's what I deserved. Pick you head up and realize that you're much more badass when you do things with confidence.
7. Appreciate your real friends. Do not take the good people in your life for granted. They are a reflection of who you are and it's important to keep the good ones around.
8. Never turn down opportunities to be reckless. I don't mean you should break the law and drink until you black out, but it is important to make memories while you're still young and able to get a little wild once in a while.
9. Try hard in school. Just do it. You'll be a better person because of it.
10. Do everything in your power to be happy. No matter what, make choices that will make you happy in the long wrong. Life (and college) is too short to be sad all the time.
