At the beginning of second semester, I wrote myself a list. I had been inspired by all of that talk about New Year's Resolutions, but I knew that those didn't usually last too long. I wanted a list of reminders- of things I could read to myself every so often to gradually make necessary changes in my life. I didn't want anything temporary, so instead of one specific resolution, I gave myself a set of reminders in order to better myself in the long run. They helped tremendously (I would say more than any one specific resolution), and to this day I still read them over now and again to remind myself to keep up with the progress I've made. Here's my list.
1. Listen to your conscience. If your gut tells you it isn't a good idea, it isn't a good idea.
2. Be true to yourself. Show your best self to the world. Don't be someone you're not or do things that don't represent who you are on the inside.
3. Take it up a notch. Your workouts are getting too comfy. If you're not sore, it wasn't enough.
4. Have more confidence. It's when you're most successful.
5. Stop doubting your abilities. You are far more capable than you think you are.
6. Rethink associations. You are who you surround yourself with.
7. Get more sleep. It's important. You know that.
8. Go to more office hours. Start making professor connections now.
9. Quit searching. It'll find you when the time is right.
10. Trust the plan. Remember that God has great things in store.
11. Think first. Do you really need that?
12. Drink more water. Fill it up before each class and make sure it's gone by the end.
13. Worry less. Enjoy the ride!
I hope my list of reminders helps you in your journey.
