Growing up in an immigrant family can be... interesting to say the least. It's even more interesting when you are first generation American. No matter what country your family comes from, here are some things that almost everyone who grew up in an immigrant family can relate to.
Not married by 25? Lord help you, you are going to be alone forever.
....But you can not start dating until you're 23.

When you do bring a boy over though, he will get countless death threats from each of your brothers, cousins, uncles, etc.
Got a 99 on a test? Why not a 100?
Food is constantly being shoved down your throat.
Oh you decided to tell your grandma you aren't hungry? Guess that means that you don't like her cooking and don't love her anymore.
You get to eat AUTHENTIC ethnic food at home, none of that fast food that claims to be from your culture.
Sunday dinner is a BIG thing.
As a child, your biggest fear is the wooden spoon.
You are either always grounded or never grounded. Never grounded? That's because you aren't going out to begin with so there is no curfew for you to break. Always grounded? Thats because you thought you could go out.
When you do get grounded, it's probably for something that seems little to you but is huge to your parents, so your punishments were a little bit overboard.
No teacher has ever pronounced your name right on the first try.
People are constantly asking you to say something in "your language."
That blue tin of cookies? Yeah don't get too excited, thats just sewing supplies.
You tend to be compare to a sibling/ cousin. If that doesn't happen to you, you are the cousin everyone else gets compared to.
Speaking of cousins, everyone you meet is your "cousin."
Your cousins were your first friends.
When someone messes with one member of the family, they mess with the WHOLE family.
No.. we're not yelling, that's just how we talk.
Your weekends were mostly spent cleaning.
You probably have some pretty thick skin. When you were growing up, sometimes you might have been teased for being "different," whether it was because your parents "talked funny" or you just ate more cultural foods than the other kids who had peanut butter and jelly all the time. You learned to stand up for yourself, your culture and your family real quick.
You have heard the same stories a MILLION times.
"My Big Fat Greek Wedding" is basically the story of your life.
You grew up in an extremely loving environment, and even though your family might be slightly insane, you wouldn't change it for the world.
