I know you're thinking, "How can I lose weight by praying?" right?
Fasting, that is your answer.
But don't stop reading because I used the word "Fasting." It's not as bad as you think.
The Daniel Fast is probably the most liberating experience I have had in a long time.
21 Days of fasting and prayer drew me so much closer to my God.
Why should begin 21 days of fasting and prayer?
"For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit." Romans 8:5
The most valuable benefit from fasting is the opportunity to grow closer to God. By entering into a period of fasting and prayer, you are setting the atmosphere and allowing the always-ready Holy Spirit a chance to lead you and reveal to you God's word.
“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” James 4:8.
As a follower of Christ, we are not merely flesh and bones. Our bodies are the temple in which the Holy Spirit resides. You are the caretaker of your body and therefore YOU are now the caretaker of God's Holy Temple. That temple should be healthily taken care of.
“Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?” 1 Corinthians 6:19
How does the Daniel Fast work?
At that time I, Daniel, mourned for three weeks. I ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched my lips; and I used no lotions at all until the three weeks were over. Daniel 10:2-3
The basic guidelines for the Daniel Fast include eating: fruits, nuts, vegetables, whole grains, and to only drink water. Coffee and tea are not permitted.
"And at the end often days, their countenances appeared fairer, and fatter in flesh, then all the children, which did eat the portion of the king's meat. Thus Melzar took away the portion of their meat, and the wine that they should drink: and gave them pulse. As for these four children, God gave them knowledge, and skill in all learning and wisdom, and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams." Daniel 1: 15-17
