It's that time of year again! The lovely yet extremely stressful and overwhelming process of recruitment has started yet again. And being a PNM myself this semester, I figured that I would bring to life what recruitment is really like.
And maybe our friends Joey, Monica, Chandler, Phoebe, Ross, and Rachel know a lot more about recruitment than we might expect.
1. When you begin to learn about the process of recruitment..
IFC and Panhellenic Open House? Pref parties and recruitment events? Bid day? Initiation? Can you repeat that all one more time?
2. Walking into Meet the Greeks like
This is where you're given the chance to make your first impression on each of the organizations. Don't mess it up, buddy.
3. Walking up to a frat or sorority and then your friend says something dumb.
Let's be real. Our friends can say something idiotic things. And of course, we are guilty ourselves as well. But they can't know about that.
4. Seeing people you talked to at Meet the Greeks on campus but being unsure if they actually recognize who you are.
Hey? Hello? Yeah, hi there. Remember me? Oh, no? Okay, that's cool too. Let's just pretend this never happened.
5. Being so busy and caught up in recruitment that you basically forget how to live your daily life.
During recruitment, it seems as if nothing else even matters. I didn't do my Spanish homework last night? Forgot to study for that 9am English quiz? Oh, well that's a shame. Moving on...
6. Embarrassing yourself in front of someone in the org that you want to be a part of like
It seems like the end of the world. We've all had that one really embarrassing and awkward moment.
7. When there's an athletic event, but you have no athletic capabilities whatsoever.
Maybe baseball isn't your thing. Or football. Or basketball. Or soccer. If this is you, then just go to the free food events (refer to number 8.)
8. Showing up to an event with free food like...
For those non-athletic PNM's, this is your time to shine. Buffalo wings and chicken nuggets and pizza, oh my!
9. When bid day comes along...
The day has finally come. The day you have been waiting for since you first decided you wanted to rush. And with all this excitement, you truly don't know how to act.
10. When it's finally time to find out who your bid was from...
You've been handed your bid. All of your emotions start to kick in. Your heart is racing. The decision has been made, and now it's just a matter of time until it is revealed to you. *DUN DUN DUN*
11. Opening your bid and being happy with the outcome.
Yes! Your organization of choice gave you a bid. All is good and well in the world. *HOOOOORRRRRRAAAAYYY*
12. Greeting your brothers/sisters at bid day like..
You now belong to a brotherhood/sisterhood and you couldn't be any more excited. These next four years are going to be a blast, and you'll be spending them with all of the beautiful people you met on this very day.
13. And now you have brothers/sisters for a lifetime.
Greek orgs might be given a bad rep, but the reality is that they are truly a family away from home for you. They'll be there when you're happy, sad, and all of the emotions in between. So once recruitment is over, it's time to get ready and have the time of your life!
