Q: Why did you decide to go Greek?
A: I decided to go Greek because I wanted the feel of a smaller community at Iowa State. I am also interested in the different philanthropies of the other chapters and all the benefits that Greek life has to offer.
Q: Who do you admire most in life?
A: I admire my older sister Abby for a lot of reasons. She reminds me to enjoy life, stay positive and to not be afraid to show who I really am. She always encourages me to follow my own interests, to not hold back on my passions, and reminds me to make myself happy first. There are endless words to describe her and how much I admire her, but she has been a huge influence on where I am in life.
Q: What do you hope to do with your child, adult and family services degree?
A: Right now, I am still figuring that part out, but I know that I want to work with children who are undergoing a hard time in life and need positive vibes and happiness. I think I would want to work at a children's hospital type of setting. Overall, I want to have a positive impact on children's lives.
Q: You spent this last summer in Sicily. Tell me about that.
A: This past summer I was in Sicily for a program called Camp Adventure. I was a lifeguard and swim instructor on the Sigonella navy base. I interacted with the different military families and children at the pool Monday through Friday. I was lucky enough to meet some really great children and their families, and learn more about the military life. I really enjoyed teaching the kids how to swim, get more comfortable in the water and teaching them the different strokes. I worked with ages ranging from two years old to 11 years old. It was hard to say goodbye to the kids and the families at the end of the summer.
Q: Philanthropy and service seems like it is close to your heart. Tell me more about why it is so important to you.
A: Philanthropy and service mean a lot to me because it is such a good feeling giving back or helping other people out. You have the opportunity to meet so many different people, and you can make such a positive impact on not only others' lives but your own as well. I think that if you can make a positive impact or bring happiness into someone's day, that is one of the greatest rewards.
