I've seen friendships lost over this stuff.
People passionately argue over all sorts of things: politics, religion, social issues. However, there is nothing more heavily disputed among college students as the best Mexican food.
When it comes to Mexican food, it really comes down to the two restaurants that know how to do it right. The genius of Moe's and Chipotle have changed the lives of ravenous college students on a budget. However, there is a strong divide between those who prefer Moe's and those who prefer Chipotle, each believing their camp is better. So which is truly the best? Let's evaluate.
1. Best Price- Chipotle
At Moe's, a burrito or burrito bowl is approximately going to cost you $7.25, whereas at Chipotle a burrito/ bowl will cost you between $6.25- 6.65, depending on your meat. While Moe's doesn't charge extra for your guacamole, Chipotle charges a whopping $1.80 and extra for chips as well. However, Moe's will charge you $1.10 for queso, and extra for bacon as well. And let's be honest, no one even likes Moe's without queso.
2. Best Menu- Moe's
At least Moe's has queso and bacon, whereas Chipotle does not offer either. Moe's also has a greater menu variety. Moe's offers a variety of sauces that Chipotle does not. While Moe's clearly lists Quesadillas on the menu, you only find it on the kid's menu at Chipotle. You have to ask if you want an adult size one. Moe's salsa bar is also clutch. However, Chipotle does serve alcohol whereas Moe's does not, and offers both white and brown rice. Chipotle also offers barbacoa as a meat option.
3. Best Ingredients/ Taste- Chipotle
While both companies use fresh ingredients and produce, Chipotle consistently wins as far as taste. The rice is so addictive that I'm suspicious it has crack in it. They cook their rice with cilantro while Moe's has cilantro as a separate add on. The cheese at Chipotle is also thicker and higher quality. The meat is better seasoned and of higher quality as well. Chipotle's chips are also infused with sea salt and lime, giving it an extra kick over Moe's traditional tortilla chips.
4. Customer Service- Moe's
You get a welcome every time you walk in the door. How friendly is that?!
5. Atmosphere- Chipotle
You're sure to get that modern Aztec feel at Chipotle. Plus, if you dress up as a burrito on Halloween you get a free burrito. It doesn't get much better than that.
The winner...
Chipotle!
Best taste + Low Price = Heaven for a poor college student. Good effort Moe's, better luck next time. Anything is better than Taco Bell right?
