Grateful For You

I am eternally grateful for my two dads.

Grateful For You
Sadie Klements

From the day I met you I never knew you would hold such importance to me now. Growing up with two dads was something I didn't think I would experience, but now it is something I am eternally grateful for. I know at times I didn't want to share my home or my mom, eventually, I got past that. I found you very intimidating and I took some time to open up. We had our ups and downs as I grew up, each and every down made me feel terrible.

Looking back at everything now, I know I would have never made it without your love and support. It did not matter what I did, you were always there for me and for that I can't thank you enough. A family life we all hoped for may not have been what ended up happening but no matter where we both live and who we have in our lives you have never once walked away. With no tie to me, you treat me as if I'm yours, and I wouldn't know what to do without you.

Your encouragement, love and overprotectiveness have led me to grow in so many different ways. At times I absolutely hate what you do for a living but I couldn't ask for a better protector. I wouldn't have the outlook on a lot of things the way I do if it weren't for your influence. You've made me a better person and helped me to understand its ok to be who I am and to forgive myself for the mistakes I make because I am still loved despite them, as they don't define me as a person. For all that you have given me the last 15 years of my life I only wish to give you that much back and so much more. I can never repay you but just know I'd give you the world if I could.

You are one of the most giving and loving guys out there and I'm so fortunate to be a part of your life. Thank you for loving me and taking care of me when you absolutely don't have to. But thank you most for being my Dad, and lending a shoulder to cry on when something goes wrong. There haven't been a lot of people I can rely on but I always know you are going to be there for me. It doesn't matter what time of day it is you always answer me and try to help with whatever you can.

I hold you so close to my heart because without you right now I wouldn't have a single parent and I am not yet prepared for that. You have done so much you've never been obligated to and it has given me a better life. I look up to you and all that you have done not only for yourself but others as well. You are a loving father, a great police officer and a very loyal and hilarious friend. Over time you have become one of my best friends and someone I can go to about anything and that means so much to me.

Thank you for protecting me even at times I didn't want you to, I'm better off because of that. Heck, my whole life is better off thanks to all that you've done. Basically what I'm trying to say is that you are very important to me, and I wouldn't be where I am if it weren't for you. I'll always love you more than you can imagine. Don't ever forget how special you are because you're kicking butt at this whole "stepdad" thing.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
