Graduating From Montclair

As we begin our spring semester we come to the realization that our journey at Montclair State University is almost over and that is bittersweet. We have gained so many memories, met so many new people, and have had experiences that will last us a lifetime. But what happens after you graduate? Are you prepared for the future? Will you look back on your time at Montclair and smile or think that you should have done more, been more involved, and taken advantage of more experiences?

Montclair State University has so much to offer before you graduate and go off in the world.

1. FREE YEARBOOKS!

Yes that's right! Montclair State offers free yearbooks to all graduating seniors. The only catch is that you have to check your email in order to sign up for one. Having a yearbook is a great way to be able to look back and everything that happened your senior year of college. You are able to reminisce in the good memories and learn from the bad.

2. Career Services

The Center for Career Services is there for students even after you graduate. If you are having a hard time finding a job after graduation they can help you polish up your resume, find a job that suits your needs, and make sure you have all the resources necessary to succeed in your future.

3. Graduate School

Montclair State University has a grad school with over 80 Master Degree programs. You might be looking to further your education and advance in your career field or you could just want to go back to school. Either way, you don't have to leave Montclair just yet if you dont want to

4. Senior Week

Graduating seniors are invited to participate in events leading up to their graduation. Seniors who are residents are allowed to stay on campus after school is over and before graduation so this gives you something to do. Commuters are also allowed to participate in these activities but it is on a first come first serve basis and spots fill up fast. In years past, senior have done activities like a paint night, white water rafting, and so much more. It is a great experience even if you can only make it to one.

5. Senior Trip

Graduating seniors are invited to go on a trip away from Montclair, away from New Jersey, and usually away from the United States (so make sure you have a passport if you want to go). The trip usually takes place after graduation and lasts one week. There is a fee to go but once it is paid, everything is included: plane fare, meals, domestic beverages, and some amenities. It is an amazing experience and one last hurrah with your classmates before you part ways.

Enjoy the time you have left and make the most of it! Congrats Seniors!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
