5 Things Every High School Graduate Should Hear

Graduation is around the corner and it's definitely a bittersweet time in everyone's lives. It's crazy to think that your everyday routine of waking up and spending seven hours in school with two to three minute breaks in between classes will soon be coming to an end. All of it will be just a memory in a matter of no time. Coming from a girl who graduated two years ago, here's some things you should definitely keep in mind.

1. Take in these last few weeks.

As high school is coming to an end, these will be the last few weeks you have to make memories and go out with a bang. Take advantage of senior week, prom and getting everyone to write mile long paragraphs in your yearbook (trust me, you'll be taking it to college with you and reading it for at least a month). Take lots of pictures and don't miss out on project graduation. It's like last time you'll really get to spend time with your whole graduating class.

2. It's okay to feel lost.

Most people think they need to have it all together when they go to college. Picking a major, having a career path and future goals. Coming from a soon to be junior in college who changed her major the second semester of freshman year - don't worry about it. It's scary to take this big step in your life and it's okay to not know what you want to do yet. Just take each day one at a time and most importantly, enjoy it because it really does fly by.

3. Keep in touch with your old friends.

While it can be exciting to make a whole new group of friends in college - through your major, in your classes, at the gym or by becoming a part of an organization on your campus - always remember to reach out to your old ones, too. Not only when you come back for winter break or summer vacation, but little "I miss you" texts or weekend get togethers can go a long way. Make plans to get half apps. You'll totally regret not spending time with them if you end up drifting apart, believe me.

4. Don't forget to call your family.

Now that high school is over and you're almost done living under your parents roof (and rules) it's super easy to get caught up in the college life. But in the midst of all the new experiences, living with a roommate, making friends, taking different classes and the overall college campus atmosphere, don't forget to give your mom and dad a call a few times a week. Take a few minutes to tell them about your day, they'll really appreciate it.

5. Take advantage of every minute.

If you thought that high school was the fastest four years of your life, think again. College will come and go faster than you can imagine. Don't sit around in your dorm room all day on your Xbox or binge watching Netflix - you can do that any day or time of your life. Don't waste your college years because this is where your journey begins. You want to make the best of every moment and don't stress too much because it probably doesn't matter. Hangout with friends, enjoy class time, get good grades and most importantly have fun! Because after this, you're headed for the real world.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
