Goodbye Teen, Hello 20!

Two decades later, and I finally get to say goodbye to those pesky teenage years.

Goodbye Teen, Hello 20!

It's finally here! Two decades later, and I am no longer a teen!! I feel like I deserve an award for making it through 20 years on this roller coaster we call life because I think we can all agree that it's not always easy to navigate through this life. This is such an big moment, and it's one that comes with a surplus of mixed emotions. I'm an official adult now, but yet I still feel like I'm a kid... Weird, right? As much as I am truly excited to be 20 and no longer be a teen, I have to admit that I'm going to miss the teen life a little bit. So, I thought I'd take this time to say goodbye to all those teen moments that got me to my 20s.

1. (Not to be too obvious but) Birth

So, I don't think I need to explain this one in detail, but I just wanted to give a quick little shoutout to my mom and dad for creating me and bringing me into this world... You guys rock!

2. Goodbye Baby Teeth

That's right. One big teenage milestone is losing that last itty bitty baby tooth and having nothing but (wait for it....) ADULT TEETH!!

3. Puberty (GROSS)

For some people it's no big deal, but to most it means pimples, hair growing in weird places, and growth pains... BUT without it, we'd still look like the original Kylie Jenner.

4. First Razor

Alright ladies, big step right here -- getting your very first razor! How did we survive all those years without shaving baffles me, since we all know now that nothing beats the feeling of freshly saved legs!

5. First Kiss

Sweet. Innocent. Incredibly awkward. I mean, like, who turns their head which way?? And how long do you have to stay there??? Nothing at all like The Notebook...

6. First Job

Time to make my own money and quit having to save money from my birthday and Christmas for the things I want to do in July. Being a teen meant that I was ready to take on my Wendy Peffercorn persona!

7. Driver's License

Beep! Beep! Look out! Getting my license meant no more relying on mom and dad to take me to my friend's house and no more school bus (WOO!!!)

8. Heartache

Significant others aren't the only ones who can hurt you-- friends can break your heart too. Heartache helps teach you about life and a whole lot about yourself, so embrace it even when it hurts like hell.

9. Gradu(YAY)ation

Peace out high school!!! Throw the caps up as high as you can, and say goodbye to four years you'll never get back. FYI, it's nothing like High School Musical either, so that's a bummer.

10. Leaving Home

The road ends here for teens... Leaving home. Whether it's for college or for a job, saying goodbye to the house whose secrets you already knew is a scary big step into adulthood. And unfortunately, adulthood is probably going to be just as confusing and scary as those teen years we just survived.

Saying goodbye is never easy, even when it's saying goodbye to those sometimes torturous teenage years. There's good and bad throughout those years, but without them, no one would be an adult. So, here's to two decades of surviving and striving in this crazy world!

Wish me luck (I'm going to need it!)

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
